Green Card General Superintendent Jobs
General Superintendent roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship when employers file PERM labor certification with the DOL, documenting that no qualified U.S. worker is available. Construction and infrastructure firms with active federal contracts are among the most consistent sponsors for this role.

Match your credentials to the right EB category
General Superintendent roles typically file under EB-3 for candidates with a bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering. If you hold a master's or have 10-plus years in a supervisory capacity, an EB-2 advanced-degree petition may be the stronger path.
Verify PERM wage compliance before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for the General Superintendent SOC code in the worksite metro area. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before signing an offer letter so there are no surprises during the PERM filing.
Target employers with active federal construction contracts
General contractors holding federal or state infrastructure contracts face E-Verify enrollment requirements, which correlates with more structured HR and immigration processes. These firms are more likely to have in-house counsel familiar with PERM sponsorship for field leadership roles.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to filter General Superintendent openings by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. This saves weeks of manual research and surfaces firms that have already run the PERM process for similar construction management roles.
Prepare your project portfolio before PERM recruitment begins
PERM requires your employer to document that you meet the minimum stated requirements. Assemble a portfolio of completed projects, safety records, and subcontractor management examples now so the recruitment documentation accurately reflects your actual qualifications without delays.
Clarify multi-state project assignments with your employer early
General Superintendents often rotate across jobsites in different states. PERM is filed for a specific worksite location, so if your role shifts to a new metropolitan statistical area mid-process, a supplemental LCA and amended PERM may be required. Confirm the primary worksite with USCIS before filing.
Green Card General Superintendent: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a General Superintendent role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most General Superintendent positions qualify under EB-3 for skilled workers, as employers typically require a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field plus substantial field experience. EB-2 sponsorship is available if the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or if you have a master's degree and the employer documents that requirement in the job description before PERM recruitment begins.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency rather than temporary status, and EB-3 petitions for most nationalities outside India and China face no meaningful visa backlog, meaning green card approval can follow within one to three years of filing. H-1B visa requires annual lottery selection and must be renewed every three years. PERM is also employer-initiated, so your employer bears the burden of the DOL recruitment process.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for a General Superintendent?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-mandated recruitment campaign, including job postings, newspaper ads, and internal referrals, to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available at the prevailing wage. The recruitment window typically runs 30 to 60 days, after which the employer submits the PERM application. DOL processing currently averages around six months for non-audited cases, though audit selection can add another year.
Which employers actively sponsor green cards for General Superintendent roles?
Large general contractors, civil infrastructure firms, and industrial construction companies with recurring federal or state project pipelines tend to sponsor most consistently, as their scale justifies maintaining immigration counsel. Use Migrate Mate to identify employers with verified green card sponsorship history for construction leadership roles, which cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to firms that have never run a PERM case.
Can I change employers or projects while my green card is being processed?
Once your I-140 petition has been approved for 180 days and you've held adjustment-of-status pending status for at least 180 days, portability under AC21 allows you to move to a same or similar occupation with a new employer without losing your priority date. General Superintendent roles are broadly classified, so a lateral move to another construction management role typically qualifies, but confirm the SOC code alignment with an immigration attorney before switching.
