Job Title:
Psychologist - Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Psychologist (Open Rank/Track Faculty)
Department:
The Division of Rehabilitation Psychology in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University is seeking to hire two Rehabilitation Psychologists with keen interest and a strong background in working with patients with acquired disabilities from neurologic conditions, or musculoskeletal injuries. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
The position will primarily involve providing individual psychotherapy to optimize adjustment and coping. Other clinical opportunities include providing outpatient psychotherapy to adults with diagnosis of cancer, FND, amputation and burn injury. Our rehabilitation psychology division consists of a dynamic group of 14 faculty members. Most of our faculty work on various inpatient medical units (eg. Stroke, TBI, SCI, Trauma, Burn, Oncology, and General Rehab) and outpatient clinics (Ambulatory Services, Psychosocial Oncology, Burn Clinic, and Vestibular Disorders). This position would primarily involve providing outpatient psychotherapy with the potential to work in an inpatient setting as our division’s presence expands at the medical center. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center offers highly competitive pay, malpractice insurance and a great benefits package (which includes a yearly CME fund).
Department/Division Overview
The OSU Division of Rehabilitation Psychology is a member of the Council of Rehabilitation Psychology Postdoctoral Training Programs (CRPPTP). All faculty have opportunities for training and supervising post-doctoral fellows and residents. There are other opportunities throughout the medical center for teaching and taking on leadership roles. Ohio State's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) has been an industry leader for more than 50 years. U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as one of the top programs in America. Newsweek has ranked Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital #1 in Ohio for best Physical Rehabilitation Center for three years in a row. We are one of only five centers in the nation chosen to participate in the NeuroRecovery Network, which uses activity-based therapies for spinal cord injury rehabilitation. Our TBI Model System has been in place since 1997 and is one of the nation’s 16 sites funded under TBI Model Systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty responsibilities are consistent with our tripartite mission – patient care, education, and clinical research. The psychologist will provide clinical evaluation and assessment, as well as individual and/or group psychotherapy. This requires thorough knowledge of the DSM-5 and mental health diagnoses within the ICD-10. The individual selected for this position will have ample opportunities to contribute to training, research, and other scholarly pursuits. Other duties include but are not limited to representing the program or Department by participating in committees, conferences, and representing OSU at professional meetings and community speaking engagements. The psychologist is expected to practice within the established Medical Center and standards of practice (policies, procedures, protocols), and adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Rehabilitation Psychologist
Verify your license transfers across state lines
PERM sponsorship ties you to a specific employer and work location. Check whether your psychology license is recognized in that state before your employer begins the PERM filing, since re-licensure delays can stall your start date and complicate the job offer documentation.
Identify employers with active PERM filing history
Rehabilitation hospitals, VA medical centers, and university-affiliated neurorehabilitation programs have consistently sponsored foreign psychologists through PERM. Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure data by SOC code 19-3033 to find employers who have filed recently in your specialty.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring roles
Searching broadly for psychology jobs wastes time when most postings don't mention sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters specifically for employers with green card sponsorship history, so you can target rehabilitation psychology roles where PERM filing is already on the table.
Request prevailing wage documentation before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location throughout the PERM process. Cross-check the offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search using your job title and county before signing, since a wage below the certified level will invalidate the PERM application.
Document your supervised clinical hours and credentials early
PERM job requirements must match your actual qualifications precisely. Gather degree transcripts, licensure certificates, and supervised internship records now. Foreign credentials may need evaluation by a NACES-approved organization before USCIS accepts them as equivalent to a U.S. doctoral degree.
Understand how EB-2 versus EB-3 affects your priority date
Advanced-degree rehabilitation psychologists typically qualify for EB-2, which can reduce wait times for applicants from most countries. If your employer files under EB-3 instead, your priority date and green card timeline may differ significantly. Confirm the classification with your employer before PERM is submitted to DOL.

Find Rehabilitation Psychologist JobsRehabilitation Psychologist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Rehabilitation Psychologist roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply depending on your credentials and the employer's job requirements. EB-2 covers advanced-degree professionals, typically those with a master's or doctoral degree in psychology. EB-3 covers skilled professionals who meet the stated minimum requirements. If the posted position requires a doctoral degree, your employer can file under EB-2, which may mean shorter wait times for applicants from most countries.
How is green card sponsorship different from H-1B for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization period. Unlike the H-1B, EB-2 and EB-3 petitions have no annual lottery, so your employer's filing isn't subject to random selection. The process takes longer overall, typically two to four years from PERM filing to approval, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a visa requiring renewal every two or three years.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for psychology employers?
Your employer must conduct a regulated recruitment process through the DOL to demonstrate that no minimally qualified U.S. worker applied for the role. This includes posting the job through specific channels, maintaining recruitment records, and filing ETA Form 9089. The process typically takes six to eighteen months before your employer can move to the I-140 petition stage with USCIS.
How can I find Rehabilitation Psychologist jobs where employers are already open to sponsorship?
Most job postings don't explicitly advertise green card sponsorship, which makes it difficult to screen efficiently. Migrate Mate indexes employers with verified PERM and green card filing history, letting you filter rehabilitation psychology roles by sponsorship track record rather than relying on employer self-disclosure in job ads.
Will my foreign psychology degree be accepted during the PERM and I-140 process?
USCIS accepts foreign degrees as equivalent to U.S. degrees if you provide a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization confirming equivalency. A doctoral degree from a recognized foreign university can satisfy EB-2 advanced-degree requirements. You'll also need to demonstrate that your degree field matches the specialty occupation definition for your specific rehabilitation psychology role.
