Document your advanced degree equivalency early
If your master's or MBA came from a non-U.S. institution, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applying. USCIS scrutinizes foreign degree equivalency in EB-2 petitions, and gaps here can delay your I-140 filing by months.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search the OFLC Wage Search to identify companies that have filed PERM applications for senior director-level partnership roles. Employers who have navigated PERM before for comparable positions move faster and make fewer procedural errors.
Verify your role meets EB-2 specialty occupation criteria
Pull the O*NET profile for Strategic Partnerships Director roles to confirm the occupation requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. USCIS expects the job description in your PERM application to reflect this level of specialization.
Negotiate sponsorship commitment before accepting an offer
Ask your prospective employer directly whether they will cover PERM attorney fees and I-140 filing costs. Senior director roles often include negotiated relocation and legal fee packages, but only if you raise this during the offer stage, not after signing.
Use Migrate Mate to find green-card-sponsoring employers
Filter your job search on Migrate Mate specifically for Senior Director Strategic Partnerships roles at companies with confirmed EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to employers who may not sponsor at all.
Understand how the PERM recruitment period affects your start date
DOL requires employers to complete a mandatory supervised recruitment period before filing PERM. For senior director roles, this typically runs 30 to 60 days, meaning your green card process cannot start until that window closes after your hire date is confirmed.
Green Card Senior Director Strategic Partnerships: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Director Strategic Partnerships role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Senior Director Strategic Partnerships positions qualify for EB-2 sponsorship because the role typically requires a master's degree or bachelor's degree plus substantial progressive experience in business development, strategy, or a related field. If the employer's job description specifies an advanced degree, EB-2 is the appropriate category. Roles that require only a bachelor's degree with no advanced degree requirement may fall under EB-3 instead.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work visa. There is no annual lottery for EB-2 or EB-3 petitions, so your employer files when ready and USCIS adjudicates based on your priority date. The process takes longer than an H-1B visa petition, typically two to four years depending on your country of birth, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency, not a status you need to keep renewing.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for a senior director role?
Your employer files a PERM application with the DOL to prove no qualified U.S. worker was available for the position. For senior director roles, DOL requires a supervised recruitment period including job postings, newspaper advertisements, and internal notices. The employer must document every step before submitting ETA Form 9089. Analyst review times at the DOL currently average several hundred days, so starting PERM as early as possible in your employment is advisable.
How can I find Senior Director Strategic Partnerships jobs with green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for Senior Director Strategic Partnerships positions at employers with documented EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. Filtering by sponsorship type at the senior director level narrows your pool to companies that have already navigated PERM for comparable roles, which means a more informed hiring team and a faster process once you receive an offer.
Can my employer start the PERM process before I reach a certain tenure?
Yes. There is no minimum employment tenure before an employer can file PERM, though the sponsored position must reflect your actual ongoing job duties. For senior director roles, employers often wait until the 90-day mark to ensure the role is stable. The I-140 petition that follows PERM approval locks in your priority date, so filing earlier in your tenure benefits your long-term green card timeline.
