The Company
PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.
We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.
We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards. Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.
Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Senior Staff Data Engineer
Document your technical specialization before applying
PERM audits for senior data engineering roles often scrutinize whether the job duties genuinely require specialized skills. Catalog your experience with specific data platforms, pipeline architectures, and distributed systems so your employer can accurately draft the job description.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Use the OFLC Wage Search to check whether potential employers have filed PERM applications for data engineering roles. Employers who have navigated the process before move faster and make fewer documentation errors that delay your case.
Verify your degree equivalency meets EB-2 standards
EB-2 requires an advanced degree or a bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience. If your credentials come from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation early so your employer's attorney can confirm the EB-2 pathway before PERM is filed.
Search for green card sponsoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Filter by Senior Staff Data Engineer roles where employers have PERM and I-140 filing history. Migrate Mate surfaces that sponsorship data directly, so you're not asking about green card willingness cold in your first interview.
Negotiate PERM timing into your offer discussion
Ask the hiring manager whether PERM filing can begin within your first year of employment. Some companies batch filings annually, which can add months to your wait. Getting a written commitment on timing protects you before you resign from your current status.
Understand how your priority date affects concurrent filing
Once your employer files the I-140, USCIS may allow you to concurrently file I-485 adjustment of status if a visa number is immediately available for your country and preference category. For EB-2 candidates from non-backlogged countries, this can cut the overall timeline significantly.

Find Senior Staff Data Engineer JobsSenior Staff Data Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Staff Data Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Senior Staff Data Engineer positions qualify for EB-2 because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, and typically involve specialized expertise that supports an advanced-degree professional classification. If your employer structures the role at a lower technical threshold, EB-3 remains available. The job description drafted for PERM is what determines which category fits.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 85,000 slots annually with a lottery for most applicants. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the petition level and leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable work authorization period. The PERM process is longer upfront, typically 12 to 24 months before the I-140 stage, but there's no lottery risk and the outcome is permanent status rather than a visa requiring renewal.
What does the PERM recruitment process look like for a senior-level data engineering role?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-prescribed recruitment campaign, including job postings, newspaper ads, and internal notice, to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available at the offered wage. For a Senior Staff Data Engineer, the job requirements in those postings must match what you actually do, because PERM audits frequently flag inflated or overly narrow duties. The recruitment window runs 30 to 180 days before the PERM application is submitted.
How can I find Senior Staff Data Engineer jobs where employers are willing to sponsor a green card?
Search on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by employers with documented PERM and I-140 filing history for data engineering positions. This lets you focus outreach on companies that have already navigated the sponsorship process rather than approaching employers cold. Asking about green card sponsorship without that data often screens you out before you reach a hiring manager.
Can I switch jobs after my employer files the I-140 for a Senior Staff Data Engineer role?
Once your I-140 has been approved and you've held that approval for 180 days, portability rules under AC21 let you change to a new job in the same or a similar occupational classification without losing your priority date. A Senior Staff Data Engineer moving to another data engineering role at the same or higher seniority typically qualifies. USCIS evaluates the similarity of duties and required skills, not the exact job title.
