Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Service Technician
Match your credentials to EB-3 requirements
EB-3 skilled worker petitions require proof of at least two years of training or experience. Gather employer letters, certifications, and apprenticeship records now, because PERM documentation requests come fast once your employer files.
Target employers with PERM filing history
Manufacturing plants, facilities management firms, and industrial contractors file PERM petitions for Service Technicians more than most employers. Filter your job search by companies with documented green card sponsorship programs, not just those advertising visa support.
Search open roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter Service Technician jobs by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to roles where the hiring team has never navigated PERM before.
Verify your prevailing wage before negotiating
Your offered wage must meet the DOL-certified prevailing wage for your job zone and location. Run your specific job title and ZIP code through the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation so you understand the floor your employer must meet.
Clarify the PERM recruitment timeline with your employer
PERM requires employers to run a mandatory recruitment cycle before filing, typically spanning 30 to 180 days. Ask hiring managers directly whether they've started or completed the recruitment phase so you can estimate when your I-140 petition realistically gets filed.
Use O*NET to document your specialty occupation scope
Service Technician covers a wide range of specializations. Pull the O*NET occupation profile matching your exact role, elevator systems, refrigeration, or robotics, and use that task list to align your resume with the specific job description your employer will submit in the PERM application.
Green Card Service Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Service Technician role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Service Technician positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker roles, which require at least two years of training or experience. EB-2 is reserved for positions requiring an advanced degree or candidates with a National Interest Waiver, which rarely applies to hands-on technician roles. Your employer's job requirements determine which category fits.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Service Technicians?
The PERM and EB-3 path leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status that must be renewed. There is no annual cap lottery for EB-3 filings the way there is for H-1B visa, though priority date backlogs apply to certain nationalities. PERM also requires the employer to prove no qualified U.S. workers are available, which is a higher bar than H-1B sponsorship.
What documentation does a Service Technician need for the PERM process?
You'll need to provide evidence of your qualifications matching the job requirements, which can include trade certifications, manufacturer training records, employer letters documenting relevant experience, and any licenses required in your state. The key is that your credentials must align precisely with the minimum requirements stated in the PERM job description your employer files with DOL.
How can I find Service Technician employers who actually sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate filters Service Technician job listings by employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can focus on companies that have already completed PERM filings. This is more reliable than asking general job boards whether sponsorship is available, since many postings use vague language without confirming a real sponsorship program exists.
How long does the green card process take for a Service Technician starting from a job offer?
The PERM recruitment and filing phase typically takes six to twelve months, followed by USCIS processing of the I-140 petition, which can run several additional months under standard processing. If your priority date is current, you can then file for adjustment of status. Nationals from high-demand countries like India and China may face longer waits due to priority date backlogs at the EB-3 level.
