Match your experience to SOC codes
PERM filings use Standard Occupational Classification codes to define the role. Shift Manager positions typically file under SOC 11-9051 or 35-1012. Confirm your resume reflects duties that match the code your prospective employer plans to use.
Target employers with active PERM histories
Hospitality groups, quick-service restaurant chains, and large retail operators file PERM applications regularly. Focus your search on multi-unit employers with dedicated HR teams, since they already have legal infrastructure for sponsorship rather than treating it as a one-off process.
Gather certified wage evidence before interviews
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for your metro area and job level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the current wage tier for your target city before your first interview, so wage conversations don't stall the offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Shift Manager roles at employers with documented green card sponsorship history. Filtering by EB-3 sponsorship activity saves weeks of manual research and surfaces opportunities that don't appear on general job boards.
Address the PERM recruitment period proactively
PERM requires your employer to run a 30-to-60-day supervised recruitment campaign before filing. Raise this timeline early in offer negotiations so both sides plan around it, and confirm your employer's immigration counsel has handled food-service or retail PERM cases before.
Get your credentials evaluated before filing starts
If your supervisory or management training came from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member service. EB-3 professional petitions require documented equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree if that education forms part of your qualification basis.
Green Card Shift Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Shift Manager roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Shift Manager positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, since the role typically requires at least two years of training or experience rather than an advanced degree. EB-2 sponsorship is possible if the position is restructured to require a bachelor's degree plus specialized management credentials, but most employers file under EB-3 for operational supervisory roles.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Unlike the H-1B visa, EB-3 sponsorship has no annual lottery, so your employer can initiate the PERM process at any point without waiting for a selection window. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification, the I-140 petition, and adjustment of status together typically take two to four years for most countries. The result is permanent residency, not a temporary status that requires renewal.
What does the PERM process look like for a Shift Manager position?
Your employer files a Prevailing Wage Determination request with DOL, then runs a mandatory recruitment campaign lasting 30 to 60 days to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. After that, they file the ETA Form 9089 with DOL. Once certified, they file your I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS, and you file for adjustment of status when a visa number becomes current.
How can I find Shift Manager jobs where employers are willing to sponsor a green card?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Shift Manager openings by employers with verified green card sponsorship history. Many hospitality and retail employers sponsor regularly but don't advertise it prominently in job postings, so searching by sponsorship data rather than job title alone surfaces opportunities that standard searches miss.
Will my country of birth affect how long it takes to get a green card as a Shift Manager?
Yes. EB-3 priority dates move faster for most countries, but applicants born in India, China, Mexico, or the Philippines face longer backlogs because per-country annual limits apply. Your priority date is set when your I-140 is approved, and you can track movement using the monthly Visa Bulletin published by the State Department.
