Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Accounting Clerk role. A degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an accounting concentration strengthens your petition. A general business degree alone may trigger an RFE.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Accounting Clerk roles in your target city before your offer negotiation. Your employer must certify the offered wage meets at least the Level I or II threshold on the LCA.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to find employers who have filed LCAs for Accounting Clerk or related roles. Prior LCA filings confirm the employer already understands the H-1B process, reducing the risk of sponsorship falling through after an offer.
Ask about cap-exempt employer status early
Colleges, universities, nonprofits affiliated with universities, and certain research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning you can file year-round without waiting for the April lottery. Accounting Clerk roles at these employers offer a faster path to H-1B status.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Employers must be enrolled in E-Verify to legally employ H-1B workers. Verify enrollment during the offer stage, not after signing. Non-enrolled employers cannot petition USCIS on your behalf regardless of their willingness to sponsor.

Find Accounting Clerk JobsAccounting Clerk H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Accounting Clerk role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS evaluates whether the specific role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. A generic clerical role with no degree requirement won't qualify, but a position requiring degree-level accounting knowledge, reconciliation work, or financial reporting typically does. Your employer's job description must reflect that degree-level expertise is a baseline requirement, not a preference.
How do I find employers who actually sponsor H-1B visas for Accounting Clerk positions?
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers with documented LCA filing history for Accounting Clerk and related roles. LCA filings are public DOL records that confirm an employer has sponsored H-1B workers in this occupation before. Targeting employers with prior filings in your city narrows your search to companies already familiar with the sponsorship process.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off from an Accounting Clerk job?
You have a 60-day grace period after involuntary termination to find a new employer willing to file a new or transfer H-1B petition on your behalf. If you're already in H-1B status, a new employer can file an H-1B transfer without waiting for the annual cap or lottery. Act quickly because the 60-day window doesn't pause while you negotiate offers.
Can my employer transfer my H-1B to a different Accounting Clerk role or location?
Yes, but material changes require an amended H-1B petition. A new work location in a different metropolitan statistical area triggers a new LCA, meaning your employer must recertify the prevailing wage for the new city before you relocate. A change in job duties significant enough to alter the specialty occupation determination also requires an amendment filed with USCIS before the change takes effect.
What wage level should an Accounting Clerk H-1B petition use?
Most entry-level Accounting Clerk positions are filed at Level I or Level II on the DOL wage scale, depending on your experience and the complexity of duties. Level I covers entry-level tasks with routine supervision. Level II reflects positions requiring independent judgment. Your employer sets the wage level on the LCA, and USCIS scrutinizes whether the offered wage and described duties are consistent with that level.
