Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Ar Specialist
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree field to directly relate to accounts receivable work. An accounting, finance, or business administration degree clears this bar. A general studies or unrelated degree may trigger an RFE, so confirm your transcript aligns before applying.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter AR Specialist roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation. That history signals the employer already understands the H-1B process and won't treat your visa status as an obstacle during hiring.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for AR Specialists in your metro area. Run your job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before your salary conversation so you know the floor they're legally required to meet.
Prioritize healthcare and ERP-dependent employers
Healthcare systems and manufacturers running SAP or Oracle ERP platforms file H-1B petitions for AR roles more consistently than small businesses. These organizations have dedicated HR teams familiar with the I-129 process and are less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-filing.
Confirm cap-exempt status if switching from a nonprofit
If you're currently employed at a university, nonprofit hospital, or government research institution, your employer may qualify as cap-exempt. A cap-exempt H-1B transfer to a for-profit AR role resets your cap-subject status, so time your move to align with USCIS filing windows in April.
Document your O*NET occupation code for petition accuracy
AR Specialist roles map to specific SOC codes in O*NET, which your employer's attorney uses when filing the LCA and I-129. Misclassified occupation codes are a common RFE trigger. Confirm your job description matches the duties listed under your assigned code before the petition is filed.

Find Ar Specialist JobsAr Specialist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an AR Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a directly related field. Generic AR roles that accept any degree may face USCIS scrutiny. To strengthen the petition, your employer's job description should specify the degree requirement and tie it to the technical nature of the work, such as applying GAAP standards or managing revenue recognition cycles.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for AR Specialists most reliably?
Healthcare systems, large manufacturers, and financial services companies sponsor H-1B visas for AR roles with the most consistency. These employers typically run high-volume billing operations that require dedicated specialists and have in-house HR or legal teams experienced with USCIS filings. You can browse AR Specialist roles filtered by H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer changes billing systems or restructures the AR department?
A material change to your job duties, work location, or salary may require your employer to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS before the change takes effect. If your role shifts from AR collections to a substantially different function, the amended petition must reflect the new position. Stay in contact with your employer's HR or immigration counsel when organizational changes are announced.
Can I start an AR Specialist job before my H-1B is approved?
Not for cap-subject petitions. Your employment start date cannot precede October 1 of the fiscal year for which you were selected. If you're changing employers and already hold an approved H-1B, you can begin working for the new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition under H-1B portability rules, provided you've been in valid H-1B status for at least 180 days.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect AR Specialist job offers?
Your employer must certify in the LCA that they'll pay you at least the prevailing wage for AR Specialists in your specific geographic area, as determined by DOL wage data. Wage Level I applies to entry-level roles, while Levels II through IV reflect increasing experience and complexity. You can cross-check your offer against DOL benchmarks using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting a position.
