Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B approval depends on a direct connection between your degree and the Regional Service Manager role. Engineering, operations management, and industrial technology degrees align well. A general business degree may trigger an RFE if the employer can't document why that field is required.
Pull LCA filings before applying
Search the OFLC Wage Search by SOC code 11-3051 to see which employers have filed LCAs for service manager roles in your target region. Employers with recent certified filings have active H-1B infrastructure and understand the process.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified H-1B employers
Search Regional Service Manager openings on Migrate Mate to filter for employers with confirmed H-1B filing history. This cuts time spent on companies that list the role but have never sponsored a work visa.
Clarify geographic scope before the offer stage
Regional Service Manager roles often cover multi-state territories. USCIS requires a separate LCA for each worksite location. Confirm with your employer that they'll file LCAs for every state in your region before you accept an offer.
Document your service management credentials early
Gather certifications like PMP, ITIL, or OEM service credentials before your employer starts the H-1B petition. These strengthen the specialty occupation argument and reduce the chance of a USCIS RFE questioning whether the role truly requires a degree.
Ask employers about their cap-exempt status
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government entities are cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions outside the April lottery. Regional Service Manager roles at hospital systems or research campuses may qualify for year-round filing.
H-1B Visa Regional Service Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Regional Service Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, if the employer can document that the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as engineering, operations management, or a related technical discipline. Roles that accept any degree or substitute experience without a degree requirement are harder to support. The O*NET profile for this SOC code shows a typical education requirement of a bachelor's degree, which USCIS weighs in the specialty occupation analysis.
How do I find Regional Service Manager employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas?
Search Migrate Mate for Regional Service Manager openings filtered by H-1B sponsorship history. You can also cross-reference employer names against OFLC LCA disclosure data using the SOC code 11-3051 to confirm recent H-1B filings. Employers in manufacturing, field service, and enterprise technology tend to have established sponsorship programs for this role.
What happens if my Regional Service Manager territory spans multiple states?
Your employer must file a separate LCA with DOL for each state where you'll perform work for a meaningful period. If your territory expands after your H-1B is approved, the employer may need to amend the petition or file a new LCA for the added locations. Raise this with your employer before the offer is finalized so the petition covers your full territory from the start.
Can I change employers mid-H-1B if I find a better Regional Service Manager role?
Yes, through H-1B portability under AC21. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition and you can start work once USCIS receives it, without waiting for approval. The new role must still qualify as a specialty occupation. Service manager roles at different employers can have meaningfully different job duties, so confirm the new position description supports the degree requirement before the transfer is filed.
What prevailing wage level applies to Regional Service Manager roles?
Prevailing wage for this occupation is determined using DOL's OFLC Wage Search based on the SOC code, job location, and wage level one through four. Level one covers entry-level positions and level four covers experienced managers. Regional Service Manager roles with direct reports and P&L responsibility typically fall at wage level three or four, and your employer must certify they'll pay at least the prevailing wage in the LCA.
