H-1B Visa Engineering Director Jobs
Engineering Director roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field. Most sponsoring employers file under the regular cap, though cap-exempt research institutions and government contractors offer an alternative path. Premium processing cuts USCIS adjudication to 15 business days.

INTRODUCTION
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, OCI, is building and operating a global-scale cloud network that supports enterprise, government, AI, and cloud-native workloads. OCI’s global network provides the foundation for customer connectivity, regional expansion, inter-region traffic, Internet edge connectivity, and backbone transport across Oracle’s cloud footprint.
The Global Network Engineering Service Engineering team is responsible for developing, implementing, and operating OCI’s Internet and Backbone Services. These services include backbone routing, Internet edge connectivity, BGP policy, traffic engineering, monitoring, network security controls, service automation, operational tooling, and new network service capabilities.
We are seeking a Network Engineering Director to lead a team responsible for the engineering and operation of production network services across OCI’s Internet and Backbone infrastructure. This leader will manage engineers working across routing design, BGP policy, Internet and backbone service implementation, operational monitoring, service reliability, network security, automation, feature delivery, lifecycle management, and incident response.
This is a senior technical leadership role that requires strong network engineering depth, sound operational judgment, and experience leading teams that operate large-scale production networks. The successful candidate will set technical direction, improve operational mechanisms, lead service delivery, and drive measurable improvements in reliability, security, monitoring, automation, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate understands how global networks behave under scale, failure, change, and rapid customer growth. They will be comfortable reviewing routing and service designs, participating in production escalations, making risk-based decisions, and building teams that deliver reliable network services at cloud scale.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Network Engineering Director in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s Global Network Engineering organization, you will apply your extensive knowledge of large-scale IP networking, Internet edge services, backbone routing, BGP policy, traffic engineering, network security, monitoring, automation, and production operations to manage the engineering and operation of OCI’s Internet and Backbone Services.
You will lead a team responsible for developing, implementing, and operating highly available network services that support OCI’s global backbone, Internet connectivity, customer traffic, inter-region connectivity, and continued cloud expansion. You will set technical direction for routing design, service architecture, operational standards, monitoring strategy, change safety, and service reliability.
You will drive enhancements to existing network service architectures and envision future improvements in routing control, traffic engineering, telemetry, automation, network security, and operational efficiency. You will partner across architecture, operations, software engineering, security, capacity planning, and regional infrastructure teams to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable network services. You will use SDN and network control-plane capabilities where appropriate to improve consistency, validation, remediation, and operational safety.

Verify your SOC code before applying
Engineering Director roles map to multiple SOC codes depending on discipline. Pull the O*NET profile for your specific subdomain, civil, software, mechanical, and confirm the job offer uses the matching code. A mismatch between your credentials and the SOC on the LCA triggers RFEs.
Target employers with cap-exempt status
Universities, affiliated nonprofits, and government research labs can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap and lottery. Engineering Director roles at these institutions get USCIS review year-round, with no April registration window required.
Search sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Engineering Director openings by verified H-1B LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. You'll see which employers have filed for this exact role type, so you're not guessing at sponsorship willingness during outreach.
Negotiate premium processing into your offer
Engineering Director hires often come with urgent start dates. Ask the recruiter to include premium processing in the offer letter before signing. This locks in the commitment and avoids post-offer back-and-forth with HR or legal.
Document your leadership scope for the LCA
Director-level roles must demonstrate specialty occupation status, which means your petition needs to show the position requires a specific bachelor's degree, not just managerial experience. Have your employer detail team size, technical scope, and required degree field in the support letter.
Confirm prevailing wage level before accepting
Run your offered compensation against the OFLC Wage Search for your job title, SOC code, and work location before accepting. The DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage on the certified LCA, and a Level I wage at a director title often signals a misclassified role.
H-1B Visa Engineering Director: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Engineering Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering discipline. USCIS scrutinizes director-level roles more heavily than individual contributor positions because some managerial jobs accept any bachelor's degree. Your employer's support letter needs to establish that the specific technical degree is a baseline requirement, not just preferred, for the role to hold up.
How do I find Engineering Director jobs at companies that actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate filters Engineering Director listings by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you can see which companies have sponsored this role type before. That's more reliable than asking recruiters upfront, since many H-1B sponsorship decisions get made at the offer stage, not during sourcing.
Can I switch employers as an H-1B holder in an Engineering Director role without losing status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the new I-129 petition is filed, as long as your prior H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer files a transfer petition, and you don't need to wait for approval to begin. Confirm the filing date, not just the receipt notice, before your last day with the current employer.
What happens to my H-1B if my Engineering Director role is eliminated in a layoff?
You have a 60-day grace period from your last day of employment to find a new sponsor, change status, or leave the country. During that window you can't work, but you can actively pursue new H-1B transfer filings. Engineering Director roles at larger tech and manufacturing companies are common H-1B sponsors, so the transfer market for this level is active. Acting within the first two weeks gives you the most runway.
Does an Engineering Director role require PERM labor certification for H-1B sponsorship?
No. H-1B visas don't require PERM. PERM is part of the green card process, specifically the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa categories. H-1B sponsorship only requires an approved LCA from the DOL and an approved I-129 petition from USCIS. If your employer is also sponsoring your green card, that's a separate parallel process.
