Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
USCIS scrutinizes whether contract management truly requires a specific bachelor's degree. Gather evidence that your role involves legal interpretation, regulatory compliance, or risk analysis, not just administrative oversight. A credential evaluation helps if your degree is from outside the U.S.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Applications filed under SOC code 13-1023, the closest match for contract managers. Employers with recent certified LCAs for that code have already cleared DOL's wage and working conditions review for this role.
Target employers with government contracting portfolios
Defense contractors, federal IT firms, and healthcare networks routinely hire Senior Contract Managers and have established H-1B filing infrastructure. Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have actively sponsored H-1B roles, so you can focus outreach on companies already set up to file.
Request the prevailing wage determination early
Your employer must certify your offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job level before filing. Ask HR to run the OFLC Wage Search for Level III or IV wages in your metro area before you negotiate, so your offer already satisfies the LCA requirement.
Clarify your job duties match O*NET definitions
Review the O*NET profile for Contract Administrators and Compliance Managers. Your offer letter and support letter should mirror that language, emphasizing contract negotiation, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance. Vague duty descriptions are a common reason USCIS issues RFEs for management titles.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Employers sponsoring H-1B workers aren't required to use E-Verify unless they're federal contractors or operate in a mandatory state. Confirm your prospective employer's enrollment status, since it affects onboarding timelines and your ability to start work on the first day of your authorized period.

Find Senior Contract Manager JobsSenior Contract Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Contract Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, supply chain, law, or finance. The challenge is that contract management spans a wide spectrum, and USCIS may issue an RFE if the duties appear more supervisory than technical. Your employer's support letter must connect the specific job responsibilities to the degree requirement.
Which industries most actively sponsor H-1B visas for contract manager roles?
Defense contractors, federal IT services firms, pharmaceutical companies, and large healthcare systems file the most LCAs for contract management titles. These sectors deal with complex regulatory frameworks, federal acquisition regulations, and multi-party agreements that justify degree-level expertise. You can identify active sponsors by searching employer H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate before applying.
What SOC code applies to Senior Contract Manager positions for LCA purposes?
Most Senior Contract Manager roles are filed under SOC 13-1023 (Purchasing Agents) or 13-1041 (Compliance Officers), depending on whether the role centers on procurement or regulatory oversight. The code your employer selects determines the prevailing wage level, so it's worth confirming with HR which classification they plan to use before your offer letter is finalized.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change contract management jobs?
Yes, through H-1B portability under AC21. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition, and you can start the new job once that petition is received by USCIS, without waiting for approval. The new role must still qualify as a specialty occupation, so the same documentation requirements apply, including a new LCA at the correct prevailing wage for the new location.
How does a change of work location affect my H-1B as a Senior Contract Manager?
H-1B status is location-specific. If you move to a new worksite in a different metropolitan statistical area, your employer must file a new LCA for that location before you begin working there. For contract managers who travel frequently or work at client sites, your employer may need to file a blanket LCA covering multiple worksites or amend your petition if the move is permanent.
