H-1B Visa Authorization Specialist Jobs
Authorization Specialist roles sit at the intersection of compliance, identity verification, and access control, all areas where employers routinely file H-1B visa petitions for candidates with specialized credentials. Most open positions require a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard USCIS uses to evaluate H-1B visa eligibility.

Map your degree to the specialty occupation standard
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to the Authorization Specialist role. Pull the O*NET profile for this occupation to document the theoretical and practical knowledge requirements before your employer files the I-129.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Authorization Specialist roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation code. That filing history confirms the employer already knows the H-1B process and won't be starting from scratch with your petition.
Verify the wage level before your employer files
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job title. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before the offer stage so you can flag any mismatch between your offered salary and the certified wage tier.
Check whether your employer is E-Verify enrolled
Authorization Specialist roles often involve identity verification workflows that overlap with E-Verify compliance. Employers already enrolled in E-Verify are operationally familiar with work authorization documentation, which typically accelerates the onboarding side of your H-1B transfer.
Build a credential file before your first interview
Gather transcripts, professional certifications, and any clearance or compliance documentation your role requires. Authorization Specialist positions frequently support regulated industries where USCIS may issue an RFE requesting evidence that your credentials match the specialty occupation definition.
Negotiate your start date around premium processing timelines
Standard H-1B processing runs several months. If your employer doesn't elect premium processing through USCIS, build that timeline into your start date negotiation. A 60-day gap between your current status expiration and a delayed start date puts you in a difficult position.
H-1B Visa Authorization Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Authorization Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as information systems, cybersecurity, computer science, or a compliance-focused discipline. USCIS evaluates the job duties, not just the title. If the role involves identity management, access control frameworks, or regulatory compliance, the specialty occupation standard is typically met when the employer documents the degree requirement in the LCA and I-129.
How do I find Authorization Specialist employers who already sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Authorization Specialist roles by verified H-1B sponsorship history, pulling from DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data. This means every employer you see has already filed LCAs for this occupation, not just self-reported a willingness to sponsor. That distinction matters when you're evaluating whether to invest time in an application.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Authorization Specialist role mid-status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed with USCIS, as long as you've been in valid H-1B status and the new role qualifies as a specialty occupation. The new employer must file a new LCA and I-129 before your first day. Your previous employer's approval is not required.
What happens if my Authorization Specialist role shifts significantly after my H-1B is approved?
A material change in job duties, location, or employer requires an amended H-1B petition filed with USCIS before the change takes effect. Authorization Specialist roles can drift toward IT management or expand into PERM-adjacent compliance work over time. Document any title or duty changes with your HR team, and confirm with your employer whether an amendment is required.
Does working as an Authorization Specialist in a regulated industry affect my H-1B application?
Regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or federal contracting can strengthen your specialty occupation argument because the compliance and access control functions in those environments typically require specific degree training. However, if the role requires a federal security clearance, confirm with your employer that the clearance process is compatible with your current status before USCIS adjudicates the petition.
