Job Description
Role Overview
The Business Intelligence Lead is responsible for advancing IAM through the redesign of structured processes, business intelligence, and AI-enabled automation.
This role evaluates L1 and L2 IAM workflows, identifies inefficiencies and service gaps, and transforms operational challenges into measurable improvement initiatives. By modernizing workflows and introducing intelligent automation, this position enables IAM teams to operate with greater precision, scalability, and technical depth.
A key focus of the role is improving overall business impact, ease of service, and ease of engagement with IAM services. This includes enhancing the customer experience for internal stakeholders while strengthening the efficiency and reliability of IAM operations.
The role converts operational pain points into structured initiatives that deliver measurable business outcomes. This includes partnering with key business stakeholders to gather feedback, understand service friction points, and identify opportunities to improve the overall experience of engaging with IAM services.
The objective is to build an operational model in which repetitive work is streamlined, decision-making is supported by data, and operational capacity is reinvested in higher-value IAM functions.
Core Responsibilities
Operational Process Review & Redesign
- Assess L1 and L2 IAM workflows, including JML, provisioning, authentication support, service accounts, privileged access operations, and request management.
- Identify bottlenecks, rework loops, unclear ownership boundaries, manual dependencies, and control gaps.
- Develop structured problem statements defining:
- Current-state friction
- Operational or risk impact
- Root cause drivers
- Optimized future-state design
- Translate findings into phased improvement roadmaps with defined milestones and measurable outcomes.
Business Intelligence & Data Analysis
- Analyze IAM operational metrics (volume trends, SLA adherence, backlog drivers, repeat incidents, error patterns).
- Use quantitative insights to prioritize transformation initiatives.
- Establish baseline KPIs and define performance targets tied to efficiency, quality, and operational maturity.
- Create transparency into where effort is spent and where capacity can be reallocated.
AI & Automation Enablement
- Identify opportunities for:
- Rule-based automation
- Workflow orchestration
- AI-assisted triage and decision support
- Intelligent request intake and knowledge automation
- Design automation solutions leveraging Azure services (Logic Apps, Power Automate, Functions, AI services), APIs, scripting, and ITSM integrations.
- Partner with IAM engineering and platform teams to move from concept to implementation.
- Ensure automation enhances security posture, auditability, and compliance alignment.
Continuous Improvement & Capability Advancement
- Identify structural gaps in IAM services, documentation, and operational ownership.
- Reduce manual process dependency to improve consistency and throughput.
- Enable operational capacity to shift toward more complex IAM analysis, control validation, and higher-order problem solving.
- Establish repeatable frameworks for evaluating and improving new and evolving IAM processes.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Master's degree or equivalent relevant work experience
- 8+ years of experience in IAM, Cyber Security, IT Operations, or operational transformation roles.
- Strong understanding of Identity & Access Management lifecycle and operational workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to convert operational inefficiencies into structured, executable improvement plans.
- Experience designing or implementing automation using Azure and enterprise platforms.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to translate data into prioritized action.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Clear and structured communicator capable of articulating operational strategies and measurable outcomes.
Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $125,000 - $150,000 (bonus eligible)

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Business Intelligence Lead
Map your degree to the role
USCIS requires a direct nexus between your degree field and the BI Lead position. A degree in information systems, statistics, or computer science maps cleanly. If yours is adjacent, document how your coursework covered data modeling or analytics directly.
Search LCA filings before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified H-1B LCA filing history for BI and data analytics roles. Companies with consistent filing records have active sponsorship infrastructure, reducing the risk of an employer backing out mid-process.
Target employers with cap-exempt status
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government-affiliated entities are cap-exempt, meaning your petition bypasses the annual 85,000-slot lottery entirely. BI Lead roles exist across higher education systems and research institutions, not just the private sector.
Benchmark your prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must certify your offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions so you know the Level III or IV floor for a BI Lead in your target metro.
Clarify the job duties scope early
H-1B petitions for BI Lead titles are scrutinized when the duties overlap with general management. Ensure your offer letter specifies technical responsibilities like data architecture, ETL pipeline oversight, or predictive modeling rather than broad team leadership language.
File premium processing if your start date is fixed
USCIS premium processing upgrades adjudication to a 15-business-day window. If you're transitioning from OPT or a prior visa with a defined end date, the standard processing timeline creates real authorization gaps that premium processing eliminates.

Find Business Intelligence Lead JobsBusiness Intelligence Lead H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Intelligence Lead role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies BI Lead positions under SOC codes for computer and information systems managers and operations research analysts, both of which require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. The key is ensuring your job description specifies technical duties, not just team management, so the specialty occupation standard is clearly met in the petition.
Which employers most consistently sponsor H-1B visas for BI Lead positions?
Large technology firms, financial services companies, healthcare systems, and management consulting firms file the highest volume of H-1B LCAs for business intelligence and data analytics roles. Use Migrate Mate to search employers by verified LCA filing history for BI and data leadership titles, which shows you which companies have active sponsorship programs rather than one-off filings.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer for a BI Lead role without losing my place in the visa queue?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed, provided your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days. Your priority date carries over if you've also initiated a green card process. The new employer files a fresh I-129 petition but you don't re-enter the lottery.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect BI Lead hiring?
Before filing your H-1B petition, your employer must submit a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered wage meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and work location. For senior BI roles, this typically maps to a Level III or IV wage. You can verify the applicable threshold using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer.
Does the BI Lead job title affect H-1B approval odds if the duties are partly managerial?
USCIS scrutinizes petitions where the listed duties blend technical and managerial responsibilities without a clearly dominant technical component. For BI Lead roles, the offer letter and support documentation should emphasize specific technical deliverables, such as data platform architecture, analytics tooling ownership, or cross-functional data modeling, to satisfy the specialty occupation definition beyond a general management interpretation.
