Align your degree to the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Technical Services Manager position. A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or systems management strengthens specialty occupation approval far more than a general business degree alone.
Check LCA filings before applying
Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm a company has filed Labor Condition Applications for Technical Services Manager or closely related titles. Recent LCA activity signals an employer already understands the H-1B filing process and isn't learning on your timeline.
Target cap-exempt employers strategically
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated organizations are exempt from the 85,000-slot cap. Technical Services Manager roles at these employers can be filed any time of year, bypassing the April lottery entirely.
Negotiate filing before your OPT expires
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, confirm your offer letter is signed and your employer can submit the H-1B petition by April 1 for an October 1 start. A gap between OPT expiration and H-1B approval puts your employment authorization at risk.
Search H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Technical Services Manager openings by verified H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate. This surfaces employers with documented DOL LCA records for this occupation code, so you're not guessing which companies will actually sponsor.
Document your technical scope clearly
Technical Services Manager duties vary widely across industries. Your offer letter and employer support letter should specify the technical systems, teams, or infrastructure you'll oversee. Vague job descriptions invite USCIS Requests for Evidence on specialty occupation grounds.
H-1B Visa Technical Services Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Services Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as engineering, computer science, or information systems. USCIS evaluates the actual duties, not just the title. Roles that mix general management with hands-on technical oversight typically qualify, but the employer must demonstrate that a specialized degree is a standard industry requirement for the position.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Services Manager positions?
Technology companies, defense contractors, telecommunications firms, and large manufacturing organizations are frequent sponsors for this title. You can identify active sponsors by reviewing DOL LCA disclosure data filtered to Technical Services Manager or equivalent SOC codes. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified H-1B filing history for this role, so you can prioritize applications accordingly.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Technical Services Manager H-1B filings?
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for a Technical Services Manager in the specific metro area where you'll work. The wage level depends on experience tier, from Level I entry through Level IV senior. Employers use the OFLC Wage Search or a private wage survey to set the certified wage before filing the LCA, and USCIS cross-checks this during petition review.
Can a Technical Services Manager transfer their H-1B to a new employer mid-status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a non-frivolous transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B status is valid. The new employer files a new I-129 petition and LCA. Your Technical Services Manager duties should be comparable to the original approved petition to minimize RFE risk.
Does the O*NET classification for Technical Services Manager support specialty occupation status?
The O*NET profile for Technical Services Manager lists a job zone requiring substantial preparation and typically a bachelor's degree in a technical discipline. USCIS adjudicators often reference O*NET classifications when evaluating specialty occupation eligibility. Employers should cite the relevant O*NET code and align the job description's education requirements with that profile to build a stronger petition.
