Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Data Architect
Map your degree to the role
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for Data Architect petitions when the applicant's degree is in a broad field like general IT or business. A transcript showing database systems, data modeling, or distributed architecture coursework significantly strengthens your case.
Search LCA filings by job title
Use the OFLC Wage Search to pull certified Labor Condition Applications filed under SOC code 15-1243 for Data Architects. This shows which employers have actively sponsored this role and what prevailing wage levels they filed at in your target metro.
Find verified sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Data Architect roles on Migrate Mate by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history. This cuts out companies that list the role but have no documented sponsorship record, so you target interviews where visa support is already established.
Clarify cloud platform alignment early
Employers filing H-1B petitions for Data Architects often specify cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP in the job duty description submitted to USCIS. Misalignment between your experience and the filed duties can trigger a Request for Evidence after approval.
Confirm filing timeline against your OPT expiry
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date. If your OPT or STEM OPT expires before then, ask the employer whether they'll file for a cap-exempt institution or if they can bridge the gap through another status.
Request the prevailing wage level in writing
DOL assigns Data Architect roles to wage levels I through IV based on experience and supervisory duties. Level I wages are significantly lower than Level IV. Before accepting an offer, confirm which level the employer intends to file at and that the offered salary meets it.
H-1B Visa Data Architect: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Data Architect role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Data Architect positions fall under SOC code 15-1243 and require at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a directly related field, which satisfies USCIS's specialty occupation definition. The role's technical scope, including data modeling, schema design, and enterprise architecture, supports this classification. If your degree is in a tangential field, supplementary coursework or a credential evaluation can help close the gap.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Data Architects?
Financial services, cloud infrastructure companies, healthcare technology, and enterprise software firms account for a large share of H-1B LCA filings for Data Architect roles. These sectors handle large-scale data governance and regulatory compliance requirements that justify the specialized role. You can verify active sponsors by searching the OFLC Wage Search for certified LCAs under the relevant SOC code, or browse employer-filtered listings on Migrate Mate.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer as a Data Architect?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days. The new employer must file a new LCA with DOL and an I-129 petition with USCIS reflecting your Data Architect duties and the applicable prevailing wage for the new worksite location.
How does the prevailing wage apply to Data Architect H-1B petitions?
DOL assigns one of four wage levels to each LCA filing based on the complexity of duties and experience required. A Data Architect role with independent design authority and cross-functional oversight typically files at Level III or IV, which carries a higher wage floor than entry-level positions. Employers must pay at least the prevailing wage for the specific worksite location, which you can look up using the OFLC Wage Search by SOC code and geography.
What documentation strengthens an H-1B petition for a Data Architect?
A strong petition includes a detailed job duty description that maps technical responsibilities to the specialty occupation definition, a degree equivalency evaluation if your credential is from outside the U.S., and evidence of the employer's business need for the role. USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence if the duties appear generalist or overlap with a non-specialty role like general IT support, so specificity in the I-129 support letter matters significantly.
