Frame your degree for specialty occupation
USCIS evaluates whether your degree field directly relates to Analytics Engineering. A computer science or statistics degree maps cleanly. A business degree requires supporting coursework transcripts to establish the direct relationship.
Search LCA filings by SOC code
Analytics Engineer roles typically file under SOC 15-1243 (Database Architects) or 15-1299. Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter by SOC code and find employers who have certified LCAs for this exact role type, not just tech roles broadly.
Target employers with dbt or Spark in job postings
H-1B sponsors for Analytics Engineers concentrate in data-intensive industries. Employers posting dbt, Apache Spark, or Airflow requirements have built data infrastructure teams that routinely sponsor H-1B workers and understand the filing timeline.
Find verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Analytics Engineer roles by H-1B sponsorship history on Migrate Mate. Each listing shows verified DOL filing data so you can confirm an employer has actually sponsored this role before, not just marked a checkbox on a job posting.
Clarify prevailing wage level before offer negotiation
Your LCA must certify your wage at Level I through Level IV. Analytics Engineers offered below the prevailing wage for your metro area will have their LCA denied. Check the OFLC Wage Search for your SOC code and work location before you receive an offer.
Confirm cap-gap coverage if you're on OPT
If your OPT expires before October 1 and your H-1B petition is timely filed, cap-gap extends your work authorization automatically. Get written confirmation from your employer's immigration counsel that the petition was filed before your EAD expires.
H-1B Visa Analytics Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Analytics Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. USCIS treats Analytics Engineer as a specialty occupation because the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, statistics, or data engineering. Employers strengthen the petition by documenting that the position's core duties, including data modeling and pipeline architecture, require that specific theoretical and technical knowledge.
Which SOC code do employers typically use when filing an H-1B LCA for an Analytics Engineer?
Most employers file under SOC 15-1243 (Database Architects) or 15-1299 (Software Developers and Engineers, All Other). The SOC code determines the prevailing wage level DOL certifies on the LCA. You can verify which codes employers in your target industry have used by searching the OFLC Wage Search before your offer stage.
How do I find Analytics Engineer employers who have sponsored H-1B workers before?
Migrate Mate filters Analytics Engineer roles by verified DOL LCA filing history, so you can see which employers have actually sponsored this role type rather than relying on self-reported sponsorship willingness. Prior LCA filings in your role category indicate that the employer has an established immigration process and understands the timeline.
Can an employer sponsor my H-1B for a fully remote Analytics Engineer role?
Yes, but the LCA must list every location where you'll work, including your home address if you work remotely from a different metro area than the employer's headquarters. DOL requires the prevailing wage to reflect your actual work location, not the employer's office. If you move cities, the employer may need to file an amended LCA and an H-1B amendment petition.
What happens to my H-1B status if I change roles from Analytics Engineer to a different data title at the same employer?
A material change in job duties, SOC code, or work location triggers an H-1B amendment requirement. Moving from Analytics Engineer to Data Scientist or Staff Engineer often changes the SOC code, which requires a new LCA and amended I-129 before you start the new role. Confirm with your employer's immigration counsel whether the change is material before accepting an internal transfer.
