H-1B Visa Diagnostic Radiologist Jobs
Diagnostic Radiologist roles qualify as H-1B visa specialty occupations because they require a medical degree, residency, and subspecialty fellowship training. Academic medical centers, hospital systems, and teleradiology groups regularly sponsor H-1B petitions for radiologists, and the 85,000-slot annual cap applies unless your employer is a nonprofit or university-affiliated hospital.

Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
H-1B petitions for foreign-trained radiologists require ECFMG certification as proof of medical education equivalency. Have it in hand before you approach employers, as gaps here will delay the LCA filing and I-129 petition.
Target cap-exempt hospital systems first
Nonprofit hospitals affiliated with a university or research institution are cap-exempt, meaning your petition bypasses the lottery entirely. Confirm the employer's cap-exempt status directly with their HR or immigration counsel before accepting an offer.
Use OFLC Wage Search to understand prevailing wage tiers
DOL assigns radiologists a prevailing wage based on experience level and geography. Look up your target metro area in OFLC Wage Search before negotiating salary, so you know the floor your employer must meet to file a certified LCA.
Search Migrate Mate for employers with active H-1B filing history
Filter Migrate Mate by the Diagnostic Radiologist occupation code to see which hospital groups and teleradiology companies have filed H-1B petitions recently. This narrows your search to employers already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Ask about premium processing before your start date
Standard H-1B processing can run several months. If your employment start date is firm, ask your employer to file with USCIS premium processing so adjudication happens within 15 business days and you're not waiting past your intended start.
Clarify how moonlighting affects your H-1B status
Radiologists who pick up shifts at a second facility need a concurrent H-1B petition filed by that employer. Working outside your approved petition without one violates your status, even if the secondary work is occasional or part-time.
H-1B Visa Diagnostic Radiologist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Diagnostic Radiologist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies Diagnostic Radiologist as a specialty occupation because the position requires at minimum a medical degree, completion of a diagnostic radiology residency, and in most cases a subspecialty fellowship. The degree requirement is field-specific and nondiscretionary, which satisfies the specialty occupation definition. Your employer will document this in the I-129 petition using your credentials and the job description.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for radiologists?
Academic medical centers, large hospital health systems, radiology private practices, and teleradiology companies all sponsor H-1B petitions for radiologists. Nonprofit and university-affiliated hospitals are often cap-exempt, which removes the lottery risk entirely. Teleradiology groups vary, so confirm their cap-exempt status before prioritizing them. Browse Migrate Mate to find employers with verified H-1B filing history in radiology.
Can I start working before my H-1B petition is approved if I'm on OPT?
If you're on OPT and your employer files your H-1B petition before your OPT expires, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. You can keep working during that gap period. If your OPT expires before a cap-gap period applies, you'll need to stop working until USCIS approves the petition or issues a receipt notice confirming the gap extension.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement work for radiologists?
Before filing your H-1B petition, your employer must submit a Labor Condition Application to the DOL certifying that your offered salary meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your role, experience level, and geographic area. Prevailing wages vary significantly by metro market. You can look up applicable wage levels for your target location using the OFLC Wage Search tool before your offer negotiation.
What happens to my H-1B status if I want to add a second radiology position?
Each employer who wants to pay you for work must file a separate H-1B petition on your behalf. A concurrent H-1B petition covers the second position, but it must be approved before you start working at that facility. This applies to per-diem coverage shifts, moonlighting arrangements, and any paid work outside your primary H-1B employer. Working without an approved concurrent petition puts your primary status at risk.
