Document your specialty occupation credentials early
Pull together degree transcripts, job descriptions from prior roles, and any certifications that tie your education directly to client services leadership. USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation status for management titles, so a clear degree-to-role connection is non-negotiable.
Use O*NET to frame your job duties
The O*NET occupation profile for Client Services managers defines the degree requirements and core tasks USCIS expects. Align your offer letter's job description to that language before your employer files the I-129, so the petition reflects the specialty occupation standard.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Director of Client Services roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this title. Past LCA activity signals an employer understands the H-1B process and has infrastructure to sponsor without a lengthy internal approval cycle.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Run the DOL's OFLC Wage Search for your target metro and SOC code before accepting an offer. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the prevailing rate, and a low initial offer may need renegotiation once the DOL wage determination comes back.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment during the interview stage
Ask whether the company is enrolled in E-Verify before your recruiter submits an offer. Employers who aren't enrolled can still sponsor H-1B visas, but E-Verify participation is required if you'll need STEM OPT or cap-gap authorization while the petition is pending.
Plan your timeline around the cap and premium processing
H-1B cap petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. If your current status expires before October, work with your employer to file with premium processing, which USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days, to close the gap.

Find Director Of Client Services JobsDirector Of Client Services H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Client Services role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, communications, or marketing. Generic management roles without a defined degree requirement can face H-1B denials, so your employer's job description should explicitly state the required field of study and how it relates to the day-to-day duties of the role.
Which industries are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for this role?
Consulting firms, enterprise SaaS companies, financial services, and professional services organizations are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Director of Client Services titles. These employers regularly file LCAs for client-facing leadership roles and tend to have internal immigration counsel or HR processes already set up. You can browse employers with verified filing history on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect this role?
The DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for the Director of Client Services occupation in your work location, based on the relevant SOC code. Wage levels vary significantly by metro area. You can look up the applicable wage tier using the OFLC Wage Search before entering salary negotiations, so you know the floor your employer must meet.
Can I switch employers mid-H-1B while in a Director of Client Services role?
Yes, H-1B portability allows you to change employers after your initial petition has been approved and you've maintained valid status. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before your start date with them. The new petition must also meet specialty occupation and prevailing wage requirements for the role at their location.
What documentation should I provide to help my employer file my H-1B petition?
You'll need academic transcripts confirming your degree, a detailed resume showing your client services experience, and any professional certifications relevant to the role. If your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency is typically required. Your employer's immigration attorney or filing service will use these to build the specialty occupation argument in the I-129 petition.
