Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Application Support Analyst
Confirm your degree meets specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree to directly relate to application support work. A degree in information systems, computer science, or software engineering gives you the clearest case. Unrelated degrees invite RFEs that delay or derail approval.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify companies that have filed LCAs for application support or IT analyst roles. Employers with recent filings are already familiar with the H-1B process and less likely to back out.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified H-1B sponsors
Filter your Application Support Analyst job search on Migrate Mate to surface employers with documented H-1B filing history for this role. That removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored the visa type you need.
Check prevailing wage before evaluating an offer
Run your job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before accepting any offer. Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your wage level, and a lowball offer that doesn't meet it will fail LCA certification.
Understand the 60-day grace period if your role changes
If your employer eliminates your application support function or you're laid off, you have 60 days to find a new sponsoring employer or leave the country. Start networking before that window opens, not after.
Ask employers about cap-exempt status before applying
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government research organizations are cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions year-round without lottery entry. Application support roles at these entities offer a faster path if lottery timing is a constraint.
H-1B Visa Application Support Analyst: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Application Support Analyst role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or software engineering. USCIS scrutinizes job descriptions that use broad language like 'bachelor's degree in any field,' so the employer's offer letter and job duties must clearly establish the degree requirement to withstand adjudication.
How do I find Application Support Analyst jobs at employers who sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate surfaces Application Support Analyst listings at employers with verified H-1B filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored the visa. You can also cross-reference DOL's LCA disclosure data to confirm a specific employer has filed for this role type before engaging their recruiter.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer restructures and eliminates my application support team?
Your H-1B status is tied to your specific position and employer. If that role is eliminated, you enter a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer and file a transfer petition. If a new employer files before the 60 days expire, you can begin work for them once USCIS receives the petition, using portability under AC21.
Can my employer transfer my H-1B to a different application support role within the same company?
Yes, but only if the new role is in the same occupational classification and at the same or higher wage level covered by the original LCA. If the duties change materially or the location shifts to a different metropolitan area, the employer must file an amended H-1B petition and a new LCA reflecting the updated role and prevailing wage.
Does O*NET classify Application Support Analyst as a role that typically requires a bachelor's degree?
O*NET lists Computer Support Specialists and related application support roles at Job Zone 3 to 4, with most positions requiring postsecondary education. Employers and USCIS officers use O*NET classifications during specialty occupation assessments, so roles mapped to higher job zones with defined degree requirements are easier to sponsor than those at lower zones.
