ABOUT THE TEAM
The Finance Transformation Office (FTO) drives the modernization and optimization of Workday’s global finance function. At the heart of this effort is the Transformation Excellence team—responsible for leading enterprise-wide transformation governance, strategic portfolio oversight, and execution excellence across the Finance organization. By establishing effective PMO processes, this team helps ensure that Workday’s most critical initiatives are aligned to strategy, delivered with discipline, and continuously improved through world-class program management practices.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a strategic, results-oriented Director of Program Management, M&A & Growth to lead complex M&A and strategic growth initiatives (new offer launches, new SKU/pricing strategies, and international market expansion) across our Finance organization. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic leader and proactive problem-solver who is capable of managing projects across multiple Finance functions (Revenue, Controllership, Tax), collaborating with cross-functional teams (IT, Product, Sales), driving standardization, and communicating with executive stakeholders. This role requires strong executive presence, deep financial and operational acumen, and the ability to identify, mitigate, and escalate program delivery risks to leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Drive post-close financial integration programs across accounting, treasury, tax, billing/order-to-cash, procurement, and FP&A. Curate, execute, and continuously refine repeatable M&A playbooks to accelerate future acquisitions.
- Lead planning & delivery of programs for new offer structures, product launches, pricing/packaging models, and expansion into new geographic markets.
- Bridge upstream commercial teams (Sales Ops, Product Marketing, Legal, Pricing) and downstream Finance operations (RevOps, Billing, Tax, SOX) to ensure system and process changes don't disrupt billing cycles or the revenue pipeline.
- Enable timely design decisions across financial workflows, ensuring legacy operations transition smoothly into Workday standards while maintaining financial controls and operational continuity.
- Establish frameworks, tracking, and executive reporting for growth initiatives. Design frameworks to measure value realization, financial performance, and post-launch outcomes.
- Proactively identify systemic risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks across multi-functional workstreams, developing robust mitigation strategies.
- Elevate the Finance organization’s strategic capability by developing program managers, instituting best practices, and driving standard governance principles.
ABOUT YOU
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 12+ years of project/program management leadership experience delivering large-scale, cross-functional programs in corporate environments.
- 6+ years of direct experience managing end-to-end M&A financial integrations and strategic enterprise growth programs in enterprise SaaS, cloud, or high-growth technology sectors.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Business, Engineering, or a related discipline; a Master's degree preferred or equivalent practical experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated capability to bring structure to complex cross-functional challenges, uniting technical, operational, and financial stakeholders to achieve long-term M&A goals.
- Proven track record of influencing VP and C-level stakeholders, delivering transparent, outcome-focused reporting, and driving consensus under tight deal or launch timelines.
- Skilled at anticipating friction points, balancing agile execution with robust governance, and evaluating strategic choices under uncertainty.
- Solid understanding of financial cycles, internal controls (SOX), tax structures, and revenue recognition compliance in automated SaaS environments.

OUR APPROACH TO FLEXIBLE WORK
With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

Align your credentials to SOC codes
Directors of Program Management are typically mapped to SOC 11-9021 or 15-1299 depending on industry. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your target code so your resume language mirrors what USCIS reviewers expect for specialty occupation approval.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Director of Program Management roles by employers who have active H-1B LCA filings in your industry. This cuts out companies that haven't navigated sponsorship before and reduces the risk of an offer falling through at the filing stage.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your target location and SOC code before your offer conversation. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above Level I through Level IV, and your offer needs to clear that threshold or USCIS will flag the petition.
Ask about cap-exempt employer eligibility early
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and government research institutions can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap. Program management directors at these organizations skip the lottery entirely, so identifying cap-exempt employers before applying changes your timeline significantly.
Document cross-functional oversight in your petition
USCIS scrutinizes whether Director of Program Management roles genuinely require a specialized degree. Your employer's support letter should detail the technical complexity of programs you oversee, budget authority, and interdependencies across engineering or product teams to establish specialty occupation.
Account for the 60-day grace period when switching employers
If you're changing from one sponsoring employer to another, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period after your employment ends. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before that window closes to maintain your status without interruption.
H-1B Visa Director Of Program Management: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Program Management role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as engineering, computer science, business administration, or a related discipline. USCIS evaluates whether the position's duties are complex enough to necessitate that specialized degree. Titles alone don't determine qualification; the actual job description and organizational complexity matter in the adjudication.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring H-1B visas for this role?
Search Migrate Mate to browse Director of Program Management openings filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. This lets you focus on companies that have already committed to sponsorship for this type of role, rather than discovering late in the process that an employer won't file.
What documents should I prepare before an employer starts my H-1B petition?
Gather your academic transcripts, diploma, any professional certifications, and a detailed employment history showing progressive program management responsibility. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization. Your employer will also need a current job description that maps your duties to the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies.
Can my employer file my H-1B outside the annual cap for this role?
Only if they qualify as a cap-exempt employer, meaning a higher education institution, a nonprofit affiliated with one, or a qualifying government research organization. Most private-sector companies hiring Directors of Program Management are cap-subject and must file during the annual H-1B registration window, which opens each March for an October 1 start date.
What happens to my H-1B status if I move to a new program management role at a different company?
Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before your current employment ends. USCIS allows a 60-day grace period after separation, but your status becomes precarious if the transfer isn't filed promptly. Under AC21 portability rules, you can begin working for the new employer once the transfer petition is filed and receipted, without waiting for full approval.
