Verify your credential meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct-field degree or its equivalent for H-1B approval. A cardiovascular technology degree or RDCS credential paired with documented clinical hours strengthens the specialty occupation argument if your degree is in a tangentially related field.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Applications under SOC code 29-2031 (Cardiovascular Technologists and Technicians). Employers with recent certified LCAs have already cleared the DOL wage-filing step and are actively hiring in this role.
Target cap-exempt employers first
Nonprofit hospitals and university-affiliated medical centers are cap-exempt, meaning your petition bypasses the annual lottery. Prioritize these employers if you're racing a deadline, since cap-exempt filings are accepted year-round and processed on a rolling basis.
Find sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Migrate Mate's listings by H-1B sponsorship history to surface echocardiography roles at employers with verified LCA filing records. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to employers who have never sponsored the role.
Time your offer around premium processing
Standard H-1B adjudication runs several months. If your current work authorization has a hard end date, ask your prospective employer about upgrading to USCIS premium processing, which targets a 15-business-day decision and protects your start date.
Clarify which RDCS registry your employer recognizes
Some facilities require ARDMS certification; others accept CCI's RCS credential. Confirming this before the offer stage prevents a last-minute credential gap that could delay your employer's I-129 petition preparation or trigger an RFE.

Find Echocardiographer JobsEchocardiographer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an echocardiographer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in cardiovascular technology, sonography, or a closely related field. USCIS evaluates the job description and the employer's actual hiring practices, so roles where a two-year associate degree is routinely accepted may face an RFE. Employers typically strengthen the petition by documenting that peer institutions require a bachelor's degree for the same role.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for echocardiographers?
Large health systems, academic medical centers, and cardiology-focused imaging groups file the most H-1B petitions for cardiovascular sonographers. Nonprofit and university-affiliated hospitals are particularly useful because they're cap-exempt, letting them file outside the annual lottery window. You can identify employers with active LCA filings for this SOC code using Migrate Mate's sponsorship history filters.
How does the H-1B lottery affect echocardiographers at for-profit hospitals?
For-profit employers are subject to the 85,000-slot annual cap and must enter the USCIS electronic registration lottery each March. Selection is random, so sponsorship is not guaranteed even with a strong petition. If you're not selected, cap-exempt options like nonprofit hospital systems or roles with a qualifying research component can provide an alternative path without waiting for the next lottery cycle.
What prevailing wage level should echocardiographers expect on an H-1B LCA?
Your employer must certify a wage meeting at least the DOL prevailing wage for SOC code 29-2031 in the specific geographic area of employment. The four wage levels reflect experience and supervisory responsibility. You can look up the applicable level for your metro area using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer stage so you can assess whether the proposed salary satisfies the DOL requirement.
Can an echocardiographer work at multiple hospital sites on a single H-1B?
Yes, but each worksite location must be covered by a certified LCA before work begins there. If your employer adds a new facility after your initial petition is approved, they must file an amended I-129 petition and a new LCA covering that location. Short-term placements at client sites under certain conditions may be handled differently, so your employer's immigration counsel should confirm the specific filing obligations.
