Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Education Manager
Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires your degree to align directly with the Education Manager position, not just education broadly. A degree in business administration won't support a petition for a curriculum development manager role. Check the job description's stated degree requirements before applying.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating offers
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for Education Manager roles in their specific metro area. Run the OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 11-9033 to see Level I through Level IV wage floors before you receive or accept an offer.
Target edtech companies with cap-exempt pathways
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government-affiliated educational institutions can file H-1B petitions year-round without entering the annual cap lottery. If you've faced multiple lottery misses, prioritizing these employers changes your timeline entirely.
Find H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate by filing history
Filter Education Manager roles on Migrate Mate by employers who have filed LCAs for this occupation. That history tells you which organizations have cleared the DOL certification process before, not just which ones claim to sponsor.
Request employer premium processing in your offer negotiation
USCIS premium processing reduces adjudication to 15 business days. For Education Manager roles with a specific start date tied to an academic calendar or program launch, ask your employer to include premium processing before signing your offer letter.
Review the O*NET profile before your specialty occupation letter
Your employer's support letter must demonstrate the role meets the specialty occupation standard. Pull the O*NET profile for Education Managers to extract the listed entry-level education requirement and typical tasks, which your employer can reference when drafting the petition.
H-1B Visa Education Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Education Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the employer requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or organizational learning. USCIS scrutinizes this more closely when job postings list a degree as preferred rather than required, so the offer letter and support documentation must use mandatory language.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Education Manager positions?
Edtech companies, school district central offices, community colleges, workforce development nonprofits, and corporate learning and development departments are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors for this role. Universities and government-affiliated educational institutions have the added advantage of cap-exempt status, meaning they can file petitions outside the annual lottery. You can search verified H-1B sponsors for this role on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect Education Manager job seekers?
If your prospective employer is a for-profit company with no cap-exempt affiliation, your petition enters the annual H-1B lottery, which opens in March each year. Selection is not guaranteed. Employers at universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government entities are cap-exempt and can file at any time, making them strategically valuable targets if you've been unsuccessful in previous lotteries.
What documentation does an employer typically need to file an H-1B for an Education Manager?
The employer files Form I-129 along with a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL, a support letter explaining how the role qualifies as a specialty occupation, and evidence that your degree aligns with the job duties. You'll need to provide your academic transcripts, degree certificates, and any credential evaluations if your degree was earned outside the U.S.
Can I change Education Manager jobs while on H-1B status?
Yes. Under AC21 portability, you can transfer to a new employer if your I-140 has been approved and your application has been pending for at least 180 days, or by filing an H-1B transfer petition with the new employer before your current status expires. The new role must be the same or similar occupational classification, which Education Manager roles generally satisfy when moving between comparable positions.
