Align your degree to the ERP role
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly relates to ERP implementation, configuration, or administration. A degree in information systems or computer science maps cleanly. Business or accounting degrees can qualify if your ERP specialization, like SAP FICO or Oracle Financials, aligns to the module.
Search LCA data before applying
Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify that a prospective employer has filed Labor Condition Applications for ERP or systems analyst roles. Employers with certified LCAs for your SOC code have an established H-1B filing workflow, which reduces delays after an offer.
Find H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters ERP Specialist jobs by employers with verified H-1B filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored. Use it to target employers whose LCA data shows active filings in your functional area.
Negotiate filing before your OPT expires
If you're on OPT, confirm your offer timeline leaves enough runway for your employer to file by April 1, the H-1B cap filing deadline. A late offer can force you into a gap year under cap-gap if your OPT expires before October 1 when H-1B status begins.
Request premium processing for faster adjudication
ERP projects often have hard go-live deadlines. Ask your employer to elect premium processing when filing your I-129 petition, which guarantees a USCIS decision within 15 business days. Confirm in writing before your offer letter is signed.
Use O*NET to document specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your ERP Specialist role and identify the education and knowledge requirements listed. Employers and immigration attorneys use this data to build the specialty occupation argument in the I-129 petition, and you can reference it to vet whether your job description will hold up.
H-1B Visa ERP Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an ERP Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, ERP Specialist roles typically qualify as specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as information systems, computer science, or accounting, depending on the module. The employer must document this requirement in the I-129 petition. Roles centered on SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics configuration and administration consistently meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for ERP Specialist positions?
Large enterprise software consultancies, manufacturing companies, and healthcare systems with complex ERP environments are among the most active H-1B sponsors for this role. Migrate Mate lets you browse ERP Specialist openings filtered by employers with confirmed H-1B filing history, so you can focus your search on companies already set up to sponsor.
What happens to my H-1B status if I switch from one ERP platform to another at the same employer?
If your job duties change substantially, for example moving from SAP Basis administration to Oracle Cloud Financials implementation, your employer may need to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS. Minor changes within the same SOC code and wage level typically don't require an amendment, but your employer's immigration counsel should make that determination before the role shifts.
Can an ERP consulting firm sponsor my H-1B if I'm placed at client sites?
Yes, but the sponsoring employer must maintain a bona fide employment relationship with you, including the ability to control your work. USCIS applies heightened scrutiny to IT consulting arrangements involving third-party placement. Your employer needs to document supervision, set the work schedule, and provide a specific client itinerary in the I-129 petition to satisfy the employer-employee relationship requirement.
How does the prevailing wage requirement apply to ERP Specialist roles?
Your employer must certify on the Labor Condition Application that your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your ERP role in the specific work location. DOL assigns a wage level based on the complexity and supervision requirements of the position. ERP roles involving system architecture or team leadership generally fall at wage level three or four, which affects the minimum the employer must pay.
