H-1B Visa Experienced Project Manager Jobs
Experienced Project Manager roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as business, engineering, or information systems. Employers file an LCA with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and the 85,000-slot annual cap means timing your job search around the April lottery window matters.

Responsibilities
About the team
We are seeking a project manager to lead end-to-end new warehouse construction projects in the U.S., with deep expertise in safety compliance, permitting, licensing, and OSHA standards. This role requires cross-time-zone availability (e.g., Asia-Pacific and Europe), and strong stakeholder coordination skills to drive cross-functional teams toward on-time project delivery. The position may evolve to lead a team based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities
New Warehouse Construction Management
- Lead site selection, design, construction, and handover, managing budget, schedule, and quality.
- Coordinate with landlords, general contractors, design firms, and inspectors to ensure compliance with building codes.
Licensing & Permitting
- Drive all government permit applications (building, occupancy, environmental, etc.).
- Interface with municipal, fire, environmental, and other regulatory agencies to ensure legal compliance pre- and post-construction.
Safety & OSHA Compliance
- Develop and enforce site-specific safety plans in full compliance with OSHA standards.
- Conduct safety training, regular inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions to foster a zero-incident culture.
Team & Cross-Functional Coordination
- In the future, build and lead a project team (engineers, safety officers, external consultants) as business needs grow.
- Drive internal departments (Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, Operations, IT) to deliver against project milestones.
- Coordinate across time zones (e.g., Asia, Europe) to align U.S. site activities with global stakeholders.
Timeline & Results Management
- Develop detailed project plans (WBS, critical path, resource calendars) and track progress rigorously.
- Proactively identify risks (permitting delays, safety violations, supply chain disruptions) and implement mitigation plans.
Communication & Reporting
- Provide regular status updates, risk assessments, and decision points to leadership.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification(s):
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Safety Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
- 5 years of project management experience, including at least 3 years managing new warehouse / industrial construction projects in the U.S.
- Proven track record of end-to-end warehouse construction with all required licenses/permits obtained.
- Expert knowledge of U.S. warehouse permitting processes (building, fire, environmental, etc.).
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, etc.).
- Ability to work across time zones (e.g., regular calls with Asia/Europe teams).
- Strong driver mindset – ability to influence peer departments without formal authority to meet deadlines, excellent stakeholder management (government officials, contractors, internal executives) and detail-oriented with big-picture perspective.
Preferred Qualification(s):
- PMP or PgMP certification.
- Experience with automated warehouses (AGVs, AS/RS).
- Familiarity with LEED or sustainable building standards.
- Prior experience building and leading a project team (recruiting, training, performance management).
- Deep working knowledge of OSHA standards; OSHA 30-hour or safety certifications (CSP, CHST) strongly preferred.

Align your degree to the role
H-1B approval for project management hinges on demonstrating a direct relationship between your degree field and the specific role. A general business or engineering degree typically satisfies specialty occupation requirements, but a liberal arts degree may trigger an RFE.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify which employers have filed Labor Condition Applications for project management roles. Companies with consistent LCA history are already familiar with the process, reducing the risk of a rescinded offer mid-petition.
Find verified sponsors on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers with documented H-1B filing history for project management positions. Filtering by employers who have sponsored this role before puts you in front of hiring managers who already understand the process.
Negotiate an offer before the March registration window
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March each year. Have your offer letter finalized before that window so your employer can register you in time. A delayed offer means waiting a full year for the next lottery cycle.
Confirm your role meets the O*NET specialty occupation standard
Project Manager roles span a wide range of job codes. Check O*NET to confirm your specific title and duties align with a job zone that requires a bachelor's degree in a related discipline, not just generalized management experience.
Request employer-paid premium processing upfront
USCIS offers premium processing for expedited petition review. Negotiate for your employer to cover this during the offer stage, before you sign, since it can significantly compress the timeline between petition filing and a decision.
H-1B Visa Experienced Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires that the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific, directly related field. A Project Manager role tied to a technical domain like IT, construction engineering, or healthcare systems is more defensible than a generalist management title. Your employer's job description and the degree requirement they list both matter significantly.
How do I find employers who have actually sponsored H-1B visas for Project Manager roles before?
Migrate Mate filters employers by their LCA filing history for specific job titles, so you can see which companies have gone through the H-1B process for project management positions rather than guessing based on company size or industry. This is more reliable than simply targeting large corporations, since many Fortune 500 companies have inconsistent sponsorship practices by department.
What happens to my H-1B status if my project ends and my employer terminates my role?
You enter a 60-day grace period from the date of termination, during which you can seek a new employer willing to file an H-1B transfer petition on your behalf. The new employer must file before the grace period expires for you to maintain lawful status. If you're on a project-based contract, build this contingency into your job search timeline before your current assignment ends.
Can a staffing or consulting firm sponsor my H-1B for a Project Manager placement?
Yes, but USCIS applies additional scrutiny to third-party placement arrangements. The staffing firm must demonstrate it controls your day-to-day work and that a bona fide employer-employee relationship exists, even when you're placed at a client site. End-client letters confirming the project scope and your role are frequently required to support the petition.
Does PMP certification or a master's degree improve my H-1B approval odds as a Project Manager?
A master's degree in a relevant field strengthens the specialty occupation argument and also makes you eligible for the advanced degree exemption, which gives you two lottery chances instead of one. PMP certification alone doesn't substitute for a qualifying degree in USCIS's evaluation, but it reinforces the employer's job description by showing the role demands advanced professional knowledge.
