Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Events Manager
Document your degree's direct relevance
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly relates to Events Manager duties. A hospitality, communications, or marketing degree strengthens your case. If your degree is in an adjacent field, gather course transcripts showing event planning or project management coursework.
Target corporate and association employers first
Corporate event teams at Fortune 500 companies and national trade associations file H-1B petitions far more consistently than event agencies or venues. Search Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified H-1B LCA filing history for this specific occupation.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage meeting the DOL prevailing wage for your job location and level. Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC code 13-1121 before negotiating, so you enter conversations knowing the minimum USCIS will accept.
Clarify sponsorship scope during offer stage
Ask explicitly whether the employer will cover premium processing fees and whether they've filed H-1B petitions before. First-time sponsors often underestimate DOL LCA timelines, which can delay your April 1 filing window if started too late.
Use O*NET to anchor your specialty occupation case
USCIS requires evidence the role constitutes a specialty occupation. The O*NET profile for Meeting, Convention, and Event Planners (13-1121) documents the degree requirements adjudicators reference. Ask your employer's attorney to cite it directly in the petition.
Plan around the 60-day grace period strategically
If you're transitioning between H-1B employers, your 60-day grace period starts the day your previous employment ends. Your new employer must file a new or amended H-1B petition before that window closes for you to maintain legal status.
H-1B Visa Events Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Events Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the employer requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like hospitality management, communications, marketing, or business. The key is that the degree requirement must be tied to the role, not optional. Generic postings that list a degree as preferred rather than required create H-1B eligibility problems, so review job descriptions carefully before applying.
Which types of employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for Events Managers?
Corporate employers with dedicated event teams, large nonprofits, professional associations, and hospitality companies with established HR infrastructure sponsor H-1B petitions for this role most reliably. Smaller event agencies and independent venues rarely have the legal infrastructure to file. Browse Migrate Mate to find employers with verified H-1B filing history in this occupation category.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Events Manager role at a different employer?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer once they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days. The new employer must still file a new LCA with DOL and a new I-129 petition with USCIS before your 60-day grace period expires.
What happens if my Events Manager role includes significant non-specialty duties?
If a significant portion of your duties don't require a bachelor's degree, such as on-site logistics coordination or vendor setup, USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence challenging specialty occupation status. Your employer's petition should document how the majority of your responsibilities require specialized degree-level knowledge, using the O*NET occupation profile and internal job documentation as supporting evidence.
How do I find Events Manager jobs where the employer already has H-1B filing experience?
Targeting employers with a track record of H-1B filings for this occupation reduces friction significantly. An employer that has never sponsored before faces a longer timeline due to PERM and LCA processes they're unfamiliar with. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you can prioritize outreach to companies already set up to sponsor this role.
