Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the APM position. A degree in civil engineering, construction management, or business administration maps cleanly. A general arts degree needs additional documentation showing theoretical and practical application to project management.
Search LCA filings by job title
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter certified LCAs under SOC code 11-9021 (Construction Managers) or 13-1082 (Project Management Specialists). Employers with multiple annual filings for APM roles have proven processes and are less likely to withdraw an offer mid-filing.
Target employers enrolled in E-Verify
Construction and engineering firms with federal or state contracts are often required to use E-Verify, which correlates strongly with active H-1B sponsorship infrastructure. Confirming enrollment before applying saves time and signals the employer already handles work authorization compliance regularly.
Find H-1B sponsors fast on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Assistant Project Manager roles by employers with verified LCA filing history, so you're not guessing which companies will sponsor. Start your search there, then prioritize firms that have filed for APM-adjacent titles in the past three fiscal years.
Request employer-paid premium processing upfront
APM hiring timelines are often project-driven, meaning start dates are fixed. Negotiate premium processing into your offer letter before signing, so USCIS adjudicates your I-129 within 15 business days and you can hit the project kickoff date your employer is counting on.
Document your PMP or CAPM credentials early
Project management certifications from PMI strengthen your specialty occupation case by demonstrating a defined body of theoretical knowledge. Gather your official PMI certificates, transcripts, and continuing education records before your employer begins the LCA filing, not after an RFE arrives.
H-1B Visa Assistant Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Assistant Project Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as construction management, engineering, or business administration. The employer must demonstrate in the I-129 petition that the degree is a minimum and standard requirement for the role, not just a preference. Employers in engineering, IT, and commercial construction have a strong track record of successful APM petitions with USCIS.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Assistant Project Managers?
Construction and engineering firms, IT consulting companies, healthcare systems, and commercial real estate developers file the most LCAs for APM and project management specialist roles. Federal contractors are a particularly reliable source because E-Verify enrollment and sponsorship infrastructure are already in place. You can confirm active sponsors by searching APM-related SOC codes in the OFLC Wage Search database before applying.
How do I find Assistant Project Manager jobs at H-1B sponsors?
Migrate Mate surfaces APM roles at employers with verified H-1B LCA filing histories, so you can target companies that have already sponsored similar positions. Cross-referencing a company's DOL disclosure data with current openings tells you whether their sponsorship activity is ongoing or historical, which matters for roles where you need a start date tied to a specific project milestone.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change APM roles?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 allows you to transfer to a new employer while your transfer petition is pending, as long as your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For APM-to-APM moves within construction or project management, the same-classification requirement is straightforward. Confirm with your new employer that they'll file the transfer petition before your last day.
What prevailing wage level applies to Assistant Project Manager H-1B petitions?
Most APM positions are filed at DOL wage Level I or Level II, reflecting entry-to-mid career experience under SOC codes 11-9021 or 13-1082 depending on the industry. Your employer sets the wage level during LCA certification and must pay at least the prevailing wage for your geographic area. You can verify the applicable wage for your city using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer.
