Match your degree to the role
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to Team Manager duties. A business administration or organizational management degree is the strongest fit. If your degree is in an unrelated field, gather documentation showing how your coursework maps to management functions.
Verify the wage level before accepting
Run your target job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating an offer. DOL assigns wage levels one through four, and your offered salary must meet at least the Level I threshold for your SOC code and metro area.
Target employers with cap-exempt status
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated organizations are cap-exempt, meaning they can file your H-1B petition any time of year without entering the lottery. Team Manager roles at hospitals, universities, and research nonprofits follow this pathway.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Team Manager listings by employers with confirmed H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate. This lets you focus your applications on companies that have already navigated the sponsorship process for management roles rather than guessing from job descriptions.
Clarify specialty occupation framing early
USCIS scrutinizes Team Manager petitions more closely when job duties appear operational rather than degree-requiring. Ask your prospective employer to emphasize in the I-129 that the role requires applying business theory, strategic planning principles, or human capital management knowledge specific to a degree program.
Plan your timeline around the October start date
Cap-subject H-1B petitions have a fiscal year start date of October 1. USCIS opens registration in March, with a lottery if registrations exceed the cap. Your offer letter and employer relationship need to be in place before the registration window opens.

Find Team Manager JobsTeam Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Team Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires that the role normally demands a bachelor's degree in a specific field, not just any degree. Team Manager petitions that describe duties as directing workflows or supervising staff without tying those duties to a body of theoretical knowledge in business, management, or a related discipline face higher rates of Requests for Evidence. The employer's job description needs to connect daily responsibilities to degree-level knowledge.
Which employers commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Team Manager positions?
Technology companies, financial services firms, healthcare systems, and management consulting organizations are among the most active H-1B sponsors for management roles. These employers file Labor Condition Applications with DOL at scale and have established internal processes for sponsoring international employees. You can browse Team Manager roles at employers with verified H-1B filing histories on Migrate Mate to narrow your search to companies already familiar with the process.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change Team Manager jobs?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the new I-129 petition is filed with USCIS, as long as your prior status was maintained and you don't have more than 240 days since your last authorized period expired. You don't need to wait for USCIS approval before starting. Your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application and I-129 petition before your first day.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my chances of getting sponsored for a Team Manager role?
The annual cap covers 65,000 regular H-1B slots plus 20,000 additional slots for U.S. master's degree holders. USCIS runs a lottery when registrations exceed available numbers, which has been the case in recent years. Cap-exempt employers, including universities and qualifying nonprofits, are not subject to the lottery and can file year-round, which is worth factoring into your employer search strategy if timing is a constraint.
What documents should I prepare before asking an employer to sponsor my H-1B as a Team Manager?
Gather your academic transcripts and degree certificates, a credential evaluation if your degree was issued outside the U.S., any professional certifications relevant to management, and a current resume showing progressive leadership responsibilities. If your degree field doesn't directly match management, prepare a detailed course-by-course evaluation from a recognized credential evaluation service to demonstrate equivalency. Having these ready speeds up the employer's internal review and the attorney's preparation of the I-129 petition.
