Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Global Project Manager
Align your degree to the role
H-1B approval for Global Project Manager roles depends on your degree field matching the position. A business administration or engineering degree maps cleanly. A general studies degree can trigger an RFE, so gather syllabi and transcripts that document relevant coursework before applying.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Application filings by the SOC code for project managers. This surfaces which employers have already certified H-1B sponsorship for this title, narrowing your target list to companies with a documented filing track record.
Target cap-exempt employers strategically
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and government research organizations are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B petition bypasses the lottery entirely. Global project management roles exist at these institutions, particularly in IT infrastructure, research operations, and international program delivery.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsor history
Search Global Project Manager roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers filtered by DOL Labor Condition Application data so you're only seeing companies that have actively sponsored H-1B workers, not just posted jobs that mention visa openness.
Negotiate the offer before the LCA locks the wage
Once your employer files the LCA with DOL, the certified wage becomes the floor USCIS will scrutinize. Negotiate your salary and job title before the LCA is submitted, since amending a certified LCA to reflect a higher-level title or wage requires refiling and adds weeks to your timeline.
Document cross-border project scope in your petition
USCIS evaluates whether the role genuinely requires a specialty degree. For Global Project Manager petitions, your employer's support letter should detail the international scope, stakeholder complexity, and technical requirements that justify a bachelor's degree minimum, not just list generic management duties.
H-1B Visa Global Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Global Project Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business administration, engineering, or information systems. Generalist management titles can face RFEs if the job description doesn't clearly establish that a specific degree is a standard requirement. Your employer's support letter and job description need to reflect the technical complexity of the role, not just supervisory duties.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Global Project Manager roles?
Multinational technology firms, management consulting companies, financial services institutions, and large engineering contractors are among the most active H-1B sponsors for this title. You can verify an employer's filing history by searching DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data filtered by occupation code. Migrate Mate surfaces this data directly, so you can browse open Global Project Manager roles at companies with confirmed H-1B sponsorship history.
What happens to my H-1B status if my global project ends before my visa expires?
If your employer terminates your position, you enter a non-statutory 60-day grace period during which you can transfer your H-1B to a new employer, change status, or prepare to depart. A project ending doesn't automatically end your H-1B if you remain employed by the same company in a different capacity. Confirm with your employer whether a new assignment maintains continuity of status or requires an amended petition.
Can I work on-site internationally while on an H-1B as a Global Project Manager?
Your H-1B authorizes work for your sponsoring employer in the U.S. Short international business trips are generally permissible, but extended assignments abroad may constitute working outside your authorized status and could affect your H-1B and any pending green card timeline. If your role requires regular overseas deployment, clarify with your employer how those periods will be structured and documented relative to your U.S. work location listed on the LCA.
Does the H-1B cap apply to all Global Project Manager positions?
Not always. Cap-subject petitions enter the annual lottery held each March, with 85,000 slots available across the regular and advanced-degree caps. However, employers that qualify as cap-exempt, including universities, affiliated nonprofits, and government research entities, can file outside the lottery at any time. Global project management roles exist in these organizations, particularly in international research programs, higher education IT, and federally funded initiatives.
