Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a SAP Project Manager
Align your degree to SAP PM
USCIS scrutinizes the degree-to-role match on H-1B petitions. A bachelor's in information systems, computer science, or business administration with an IT concentration supports the specialty occupation argument far more cleanly than an unrelated field.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
SAP Project Manager roles typically file under SOC code 15-1299 or 11-3021. Use the OFLC Wage Search to find employers who have certified LCAs for these codes, then target your applications to that verified sponsor list using Migrate Mate.
Prioritize consulting firms over end clients
System integrators like large SAP consulting practices file H-1B petitions for SAP PMs at scale and have established immigration infrastructure. End-client companies often sponsor only after a contract is already in place, which delays the process.
Get your SAP certifications documented before filing
Certifications like SAP Certified Associate or SAP Activate Project Manager strengthen the specialty occupation case in your employer's H-1B petition. Have official SAP certification letters ready for inclusion in the I-129 support documents.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Any employer filing an H-1B cap-subject petition must be E-Verify enrolled. Ask your recruiter to confirm enrollment status before you negotiate an offer, since discovering this gap after signing an offer letter can restart your search inside the same registration window.
Understand the cap-gap if you're transitioning from OPT
If your OPT expires before October 1 and your H-1B is selected in the lottery, USCIS automatically extends your work authorization through September 30. Confirm your I-20 reflects a timely cap-gap extension request from your DSO.
H-1B Visa SAP Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an SAP Project Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related specialty. SAP Project Manager roles consistently meet this bar because employers require degrees in information systems, computer science, or business with an IT focus. The O*NET profile for this occupation classifies it as Job Zone 4, which supports the specialty occupation argument.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for SAP Project Managers?
SAP consulting firms and system integrators file the highest volume of H-1B LCAs for this title because they staff multiple clients and build immigration processes into their hiring. Large manufacturers, utilities, and pharmaceutical companies running SAP ERP environments also sponsor directly. You can filter for verified sponsors on Migrate Mate by searching SAP Project Manager roles with confirmed H-1B filing history.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect SAP Project Manager H-1B petitions?
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation in the work location before USCIS will approve the petition. SAP Project Manager falls under wage levels that vary by metro area. You can check the applicable wage level using the OFLC Wage Search before evaluating any offer to make sure the proposed salary meets the threshold your employer will certify on the LCA.
Can an SAP Project Manager role at a client site create H-1B compliance issues?
Yes. When an H-1B holder works at a third-party client location, the employer must still control the work and maintain a valid LCA covering that worksite. If the client location is in a different metro area than the certified LCA, your employer needs a separate LCA for that site. Ask your employer whether an amended or secondary LCA will be filed before you start an engagement at a new client.
What happens to my H-1B status if my SAP project ends before my petition expires?
If your employer terminates you, you have a 60-day grace period under USCIS rules to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or leave the country. A new employer can file an H-1B transfer petition using the portability rules under AC21, allowing you to start working as soon as the transfer is filed and receipted, without waiting for approval.
