Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Project Program Manager
Align your degree to specialty occupation
USCIS scrutinizes Project Program Manager petitions when the applicant's degree is in an unrelated field. A degree in business administration, industrial engineering, or information systems maps cleanly to the role. Supplemental coursework or a related master's degree strengthens a borderline case.
Pull LCA filings by occupation code
DOL's LCA disclosure data uses SOC code 11-3021 for Computer and Information Systems Managers, which covers many Program Manager petitions. Search Migrate Mate's employer profiles to see which companies have active LCA filings under that code before applying.
Target companies with cap-exempt status
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and government research organizations are cap-exempt H-1B employers. Program Manager roles at these institutions skip the annual lottery entirely, giving you a viable path if you miss the April registration window.
Request a prevailing wage tier review
DOL assigns Level I through Level IV wages for Program Managers based on experience and supervisory scope. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify which level the employer intends to certify. A Level I wage on a senior-scope role can trigger an RFE on the LCA.
Document cross-functional scope explicitly
USCIS has issued RFEs on Program Manager petitions arguing the role is generalist, not a specialty occupation. Your offer letter and support documentation should describe specific technical domains, methodology frameworks, and degree-dependent decision-making to distinguish the position from general management.

Find Project Program Manager JobsProject Program Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Program Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, engineering, computer science, or a directly related discipline. USCIS evaluates the actual job duties, not just the title. Roles that involve broad generalist coordination without a degree requirement in a specific field are more likely to receive a Request for Evidence.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most frequently for Project Program Manager roles?
Technology companies, healthcare systems, defense contractors, and financial services firms file the highest volume of H-1B petitions for Project and Program Managers. These sectors typically have structured HR processes for H-1B sponsorship and use Program Managers across product development, IT infrastructure, and compliance programs. Migrate Mate lets you filter for employers with verified LCA filing history in this role category.
Can my employer file an H-1B for a Program Manager role if the job posting doesn't list a specific degree requirement?
A job posting without a stated degree requirement creates risk for the H-1B petition. USCIS will examine whether industry practice and the employer's actual hiring history demonstrate that a specific bachelor's degree is normally required. The employer's attorney typically documents this through expert opinion letters, industry surveys, or O*NET occupation data to support the specialty occupation finding.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off while working as a Program Manager?
You have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to find a new H-1B sponsor, transfer your petition, or change to another valid status. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before that window closes. The grace period applies once per authorized validity period, so a second layoff within the same petition period doesn't reset the clock.
How do I find Project Program Manager jobs where the employer is already set up to sponsor H-1B visas?
The most direct method is filtering for employers with prior LCA filings under the Program Manager SOC code. Migrate Mate surfaces this data directly from DOL disclosure records, so you can see which companies have sponsored this role before rather than asking HR cold. Employers with an established H-1B track record for this title move significantly faster through the process.
