Align your degree to the role
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to Delivery Manager duties. Frame your credentials around software engineering, information systems, or project management rather than general business to strengthen the specialty occupation case.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your target SOC code and location before you receive an offer. Walking in with that number prevents lowball LCA filings that could complicate your petition.
Target employers with cap-exempt connections
Delivery Managers placed at nonprofits, universities, or government research institutions may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B sponsorship. If a staffing or consulting firm places you at an eligible site, the 85,000-slot lottery may not apply to you.
Search verified sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Delivery Manager openings by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. That filing record shows which companies have already cleared the DOL certification step for this job title, reducing guesswork.
Request premium processing at offer stage
Ask during offer negotiation whether the employer will authorize premium processing on your I-129. USCIS currently guarantees a decision within 15 business days under premium processing, which matters when a project start date is fixed.
Document your project governance credentials before filing
Your employer's attorney will need evidence that the role requires specialized knowledge. Gather PMP certification, agile or ITIL credentials, and org charts showing cross-functional team scope before the I-129 is drafted, not after an RFE arrives.
H-1B Visa Delivery Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Delivery Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the employer can show the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. Generic project coordination roles sometimes struggle if the job description allows any bachelor's degree. The more the posting ties duties to technical systems or software delivery, the stronger the specialty occupation argument.
Which employers typically sponsor H-1B visas for Delivery Managers?
Large technology companies, management consulting firms, and enterprise software vendors have historically filed the highest volume of H-1B petitions for delivery and program management titles. Migrate Mate shows which employers have active LCA filing histories for this role, so you can target companies already familiar with the sponsorship process rather than educating an employer from scratch.
How does the H-1B lottery affect a Delivery Manager job search?
Most private-sector Delivery Manager roles are subject to the annual 85,000-slot cap, which means your petition must be selected in the USCIS lottery before it can be adjudicated. Registration typically opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're not selected, pursuing cap-exempt employers or an O-1 visa based on project leadership achievements are two realistic alternatives.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer terminates the project?
If your employer terminates your employment, USCIS provides a 60-day grace period during which you can find a new sponsoring employer and file a transfer petition without losing status. The new employer must file an H-1B transfer, which does not require a new lottery slot. Acting within that 60-day window is critical because the grace period cannot be extended.
Can a Delivery Manager role support an H-1B transfer to a different employer?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you transfer to a new employer once your I-140 has been approved and your petition has been pending for at least 180 days, or when you transfer under a new H-1B petition. The new employer files a concurrent or sequential I-129, and you can begin work as soon as USCIS receives it, without waiting for approval.
