Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Group Product Manager
Map your degree to the role
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly relates to Group Product Manager work. A degree in computer science, engineering, or business administration strengthens the specialty occupation argument. A general studies or unrelated degree can trigger an RFE even at experienced employers.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data filtered to SOC code 11-3021 to identify companies that have filed LCAs for product management roles before. Repeat filers understand the process and are far less likely to stall during the offer stage.
Find verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Group Product Manager listings on Migrate Mate by employers with confirmed H-1B filing history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying and lets you focus on companies that have already cleared the internal legal approval process for this role category.
Clarify the cap situation before accepting
Ask whether the employer is cap-exempt during offer negotiations. Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and certain research institutions can file outside the April lottery window, giving you a start date within months rather than waiting for October 1.
Get your portfolio framed around business impact
USCIS's specialty occupation standard requires that the role normally demands a specific degree. Offer letters and job descriptions for Group Product Manager positions should emphasize quantitative analysis, cross-functional leadership, and technical product scope rather than general coordination duties.
Confirm prevailing wage level before the LCA is filed
Your employer must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your location and role. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level II or Level III wage for product managers in your metro area before your offer letter is finalized.
H-1B Visa Group Product Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Group Product Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, Group Product Manager roles qualify when the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as computer science, engineering, or business administration. USCIS evaluates both the job description and your credentials. Roles described as requiring broad experience without a specific degree can face RFEs, so the offer letter language matters as much as your background.
How do I know if a company actually sponsors H-1B visas for product managers?
DOL's OFLC disclosure database publishes every certified Labor Condition Application by employer, job title, and location. You can filter by SOC code 11-3021 to find companies that have filed for product management roles specifically. Migrate Mate surfaces this filing history by employer, so you can browse Group Product Manager listings already filtered to verified sponsors without downloading raw disclosure files.
Can I switch companies while on H-1B as a Group Product Manager?
Yes. Under AC21 portability rules, you can change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your I-485 has been pending for 180 days or more, as long as the new role is in the same or similar occupational classification. Outside of that pathway, your new employer simply files a fresh H-1B transfer petition, and you can start working as soon as they receive the receipt notice from USCIS.
Does the H-1B lottery affect my chances of getting a Group Product Manager role?
Cap-subject petitions are subject to the annual lottery, with 65,000 regular-cap slots and 20,000 reserved for U.S. master's degree holders. If your employer is a university, nonprofit research institution, or government research organization, they're cap-exempt and can file any time of year. Many large tech companies that hire Group Product Managers in high volume are cap-subject, so timing your job search around the April registration window is practical planning.
What documents should I prepare before a company starts my H-1B petition?
You'll need your degree certificates and transcripts, a copy of your passport biographical page, any prior immigration documents including I-94 records and previous visa stamps, and a detailed resume aligned to the job description. For Group Product Manager roles, some employers also request a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., particularly if it's a three-year bachelor's degree, to establish equivalency to a U.S. four-year degree.
