Target employers with active LCA filings
Search the OFLC Wage Search for certified LCAs under SOC code 49-9044 (Millwrights) or 17-3027 (Mechanical Engineering Technologists). Employers with recent certifications have already committed to the prevailing wage and understand the H-1B filing process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Search Hydraulic Technician roles on Migrate Mate to see employers with confirmed H-1B filing history. This filters out postings from companies that list sponsorship as optional but have no track record of filing for technical trade roles.
Verify the specialty occupation classification upfront
Hydraulic Technician roles face more RFEs than engineering roles because the position can be classified as skilled trades rather than specialty occupation. Ask the employer to confirm the job description requires a specific bachelor's degree, not just equivalent experience, before accepting an offer.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before your start date
H-1B employers must be E-Verify participants to hire under cap-exempt status or in certain workforce categories. Ask HR to confirm enrollment status before your I-129 is filed, since non-enrollment can delay or complicate cap-gap authorization.
Check O*NET for job zone and degree alignment
Pull the O*NET profile for your specific hydraulic role to confirm it's classified as Job Zone 3 or higher with a listed degree requirement. This documentation strengthens the specialty occupation argument in your H-1B petition if USCIS issues an RFE.

Find Hydraulic Technician JobsHydraulic Technician H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Hydraulic Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. If the job description requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology, fluid power engineering, or a directly related field, it can qualify. Roles written as skilled trades requiring only vocational training don't meet the specialty occupation standard. Ask the employer to confirm the educational requirement before the LCA is filed.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for Hydraulic Technician positions?
Aerospace manufacturers, heavy equipment OEMs, industrial automation companies, and defense contractors are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for hydraulic roles. Mining and oil and gas operations also file regularly. You can find employers with active H-1B filing histories for this role on Migrate Mate, filtered by industry and location.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Hydraulic Technician H-1B applications?
The employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your specific role and work location before USCIS approves the petition. For hydraulic technicians, the wage level depends on your SOC code, geographic area, and assigned wage level (I through IV). Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your location before negotiating an offer.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Hydraulic Technician employer mid-status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a non-frivolous I-129 transfer petition, without waiting for approval. The new employer must file their own LCA and I-129, and the role must still qualify as a specialty occupation. Your 60-day grace period between jobs gives you time to secure a transfer filing.
What documentation does a Hydraulic Technician need to support an H-1B petition?
You'll need educational transcripts, a foreign credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., and any professional certifications relevant to hydraulic systems such as IFPS certifications. The employer contributes a detailed job description tying the role to the required degree field, the certified LCA, and proof of prevailing wage compliance. USCIS may request additional evidence if the specialty occupation basis isn't clear from the initial filing.
