Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Interventional Radiologist
Verify your credentials meet ABIR standards
Fellowship-trained IR physicians need ACGME-accredited training documentation ready before sponsorship begins. Employers will confirm your board eligibility or certification status as part of the specialty occupation determination for your H-1B petition.
Target academic medical centers first
Teaching hospitals and university health systems file H-1B petitions regularly for IR physicians and often have in-house immigration counsel. They're more familiar with the filing timeline, which matters when you're coordinating start dates around fellowship completion.
Search verified sponsors using Migrate Mate
Pull up Migrate Mate to filter Interventional Radiologist roles by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history. You'll see which hospital systems and imaging centers have sponsored this exact specialty, not just general physician roles.
Confirm the LCA wage level before signing
Use OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Interventional Radiologists in your target metro area. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL wage level for your experience tier, or the LCA won't be certified.
Ask about cap-exempt employer eligibility early
Nonprofit hospitals affiliated with universities and federally funded research institutions may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers. If you're negotiating with one, your petition can be filed outside the April lottery window entirely.
Plan your timeline around premium processing
USCIS premium processing cuts adjudication to 15 business days. For IR roles with credentialing lead times and state licensing requirements, confirm whether your employer will pay for premium processing before your start date is set.

Find Interventional Radiologist JobsInterventional Radiologist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Interventional Radiologist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. Interventional Radiology requires a medical degree and ACGME-accredited fellowship training, which firmly satisfies the USCIS specialty occupation definition. The role's direct relationship to a specific body of advanced education makes it one of the more straightforward specialty occupation determinations in physician H-1B cases. Employers rarely face requests for evidence challenging the classification itself.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Interventional Radiologists?
Academic medical centers, large hospital systems, and outpatient imaging groups are the most active sponsors. Nonprofit teaching hospitals affiliated with universities are particularly common because they often qualify as cap-exempt employers, meaning your petition isn't subject to the annual lottery. You can browse employers with confirmed LCA filing history for this specialty on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my job search as an IR physician?
If your target employer is a for-profit hospital or private imaging group without a university affiliation, your petition enters the annual cap lottery each April. Registrations open in March for an October 1 start date. Planning your fellowship exit and offer negotiation around this cycle is essential, since missing the window means waiting a full year.
Can I start working before my H-1B is approved if I'm transitioning from a J-1 or OPT?
If you're moving from OPT or a J-1 clinical training program, your authorization status and any applicable grace periods determine when you can start. H-1B portability rules under AC21 may also apply if you're transferring from an existing H-1B. USCIS guidance on status transitions is specific to each prior visa category, so confirm the exact window with your sponsoring employer's immigration counsel before setting a start date.
What should I verify about an employer's H-1B filing history before accepting an offer?
Check whether the employer has filed LCAs specifically for Interventional Radiologist roles, not just broad physician categories. Confirm they've completed prior H-1B petitions rather than simply posting jobs that mention sponsorship. Employers with an established immigration process are less likely to withdraw sponsorship due to internal compliance delays or unfamiliarity with the petition timeline.
