Check LCA filing history by occupation code
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by LPN occupation codes and confirmed LCA filings, so you're applying to facilities with a documented track record of H-1B sponsorship rather than guessing from job postings alone.
Target facility types with consistent H-1B activity
Long-term care chains, correctional health contractors, and dialysis clinic networks file H-1B petitions for LPNs more consistently than acute-care hospitals. Focusing your search on these employer types increases your odds of finding an active sponsor.
Request the LCA before signing any offer
Ask your prospective employer to share the certified Labor Condition Application before you finalize your offer letter. The LCA confirms the prevailing wage the employer is committing to pay and the worksite location covered by the petition.
Confirm specialty occupation documentation for LPN roles
USCIS scrutinizes LPN petitions more heavily than RN petitions because the degree requirement isn't always clear-cut. Your employer's attorney should document that the specific role requires specialized LPN training, not just a general healthcare background.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
Look up the prevailing wage for your SOC code and worksite ZIP code in the OFLC Wage Search before your offer negotiation. Your employer must meet at least the Level I prevailing wage, and knowing that floor protects you from underpayment.

Find Licensed Practical Nurse JobsLicensed Practical Nurse H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an LPN role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
LPN roles can qualify as a specialty occupation if the employer can demonstrate the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a specific field. This is harder to establish for LPN than for RN roles, so the employer's petition must clearly document why the specific job duties require specialized degree-level nursing education rather than a general diploma or associate degree.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Licensed Practical Nurses?
Long-term care facilities, skilled nursing chains, correctional health contractors, and outpatient dialysis networks are among the most active H-1B sponsors for LPN roles. Acute-care hospitals less commonly sponsor LPNs because most hospitals prefer RN-level staffing for H-1B investment. You can browse employers with confirmed LCA filing history for LPN occupation codes on Migrate Mate.
How does state licensure affect my H-1B petition as an LPN?
You must hold an active LPN license in the state where your employer's primary worksite is located before USCIS will approve your petition. If you're moving from a different state, you'll need to complete the endorsement process with that state's board of nursing. Some states participate in the Nurse Licensure Compact, which allows multi-state practice under a single license and can simplify this step.
Can my H-1B employer transfer my petition if I change LPN jobs?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 allows you to transfer your petition to a new employer if you've been in H-1B status for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For LPNs, that means the new position must still qualify as a specialty occupation, and the new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition and a new LCA before your start date.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for LPN H-1B positions?
Your employer is required by DOL to pay you at least the prevailing wage for your occupation code, experience level, and worksite location as certified on the LCA. The prevailing wage is determined using DOL wage data tied to your specific SOC code and geographic area. You can check the applicable wage level for any location using the OFLC Wage Search before evaluating any offer.
