H-1B Visa IT Project Manager Jobs
IT Project Manager roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Employers in tech, finance, and healthcare file LCAs through DOL before petitioning USCIS. The H-1B visa cap applies, but cap-exempt employers at universities and nonprofits can file year-round.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an IT Project Manager
Frame your PMP as H-1B evidence
A PMP or CAPM certification strengthens the specialty occupation argument for IT Project Manager petitions. Document how your credential aligns with the degree-equivalent standard USCIS applies when reviewing H-1B RFEs for this role.
Target cap-exempt employers strategically
Universities, teaching hospitals, and nonprofit research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning they can file your H-1B petition any time of year without waiting for the April lottery window. IT project management roles exist at these organizations in ERP, infrastructure, and research computing.
Search verified sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter IT Project Manager roles by employers with active H-1B LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. This surfaces companies that have filed for this specific occupation code, not just employers who sponsor H-1Bs generally.
Verify prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your job title, SOC code, and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check Level I through Level IV wages before negotiating, so you don't accept an offer that fails the LCA certification step.
Clarify remote work locations with your employer
H-1B petitions are location-specific. If you'll work remotely from a different city than your employer's headquarters, they need to file a separate LCA covering that worksite. Confirm this before the petition is submitted to avoid an RFE on work location.
Request premium processing for role transitions
If you're changing employers during your H-1B status, USCIS premium processing cuts the I-129 adjudication window to 15 business days. For IT Project Manager roles with defined project start dates, this timeline matters more than in open-ended positions.
H-1B Visa IT Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Project Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, but the employer must document that the specific role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. USCIS has issued RFEs on generalist project management roles where the degree requirement isn't clearly tied to the position's duties, so the job description and LCA need to be precise.
What SOC code applies to IT Project Manager roles on the LCA?
Most IT Project Manager roles are filed under SOC 15-1299, Computer and Information Technology Occupations, or SOC 11-3021, Computer and Information Systems Managers, depending on the scope of the role. The SOC code determines the prevailing wage level, so the employer should verify the correct classification using O*NET before filing the LCA with DOL.
How do I find IT Project Manager jobs where the employer actively sponsors H-1B visas?
Search IT Project Manager roles on Migrate Mate, which filters employers by verified H-1B LCA filing history for this specific occupation. This is more reliable than inferring sponsorship from job postings, which often don't disclose visa support until late in the interview process.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new IT Project Manager role while my extension is pending?
Yes. Under AC21 portability, you can transfer to a new employer in a same or similar occupational classification once your I-140 has been approved and your I-485 has been pending for 180 days or more. For H-1B transfers without a green card pending, the new employer files an I-129 transfer petition and you can start work once it's received by USCIS.
Does it matter if my IT Project Manager role involves managing offshore or distributed teams?
Not for the H-1B petition itself, but it can affect the work location requirements. If you manage teams across multiple U.S. office locations and work from those sites regularly, your employer may need to file LCAs for each worksite. Remote team management outside the U.S. doesn't trigger additional LCA requirements.
