Build More Than Projects. Help Build the Future of Infrastructure.
At Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction (RLW), we don't just build roads, bridges, water systems, and mission-critical infrastructure—we build careers. As part of the Sterling Infrastructure family, RLW has been delivering some of the most challenging heavy civil projects across the Western and Central U.S. for more than 50 years.
We're looking for an experienced Master Plumber who brings both technical expertise and a strong quality mindset. This role will serve as the plumbing subject matter expert on large-scale construction projects while helping ensure installations meet all code, quality, and project requirements from start to finish.
If you're the type of person who takes pride in doing things right the first time and enjoys being a trusted resource in the field, we'd love to talk with you.
Why Join RLW?
Work on Projects That Matter
You'll support critical infrastructure projects that improve communities and help power future growth, including:
- Mission-critical/data center infrastructure
- Water and wastewater facilities
- Transportation and roadway projects
- Heavy civil and structural concrete construction
- Large-scale industrial and infrastructure developments
Your Expertise Will Be Valued
This is more than a plumbing role. You'll be a key technical resource helping drive quality, compliance, and successful project delivery.
- Serve as the plumbing subject matter expert on assigned construction projects.
- Review plumbing installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and project requirements.
- Perform QA/QC inspections throughout construction activities.
- Identify deficiencies, develop corrective action plans, and verify completion of corrective work.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, inspectors, and owners.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and installation plans.
- Support project commissioning, testing, and turnover activities.
- Maintain quality documentation, inspection reports, and project records.
- Mentor field personnel and help promote best practices in plumbing installation and quality control.
- Ensure all plumbing work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards. Oklahoma plumbing work requires appropriate state licensure and code compliance.

Document your degree-to-role connection
USCIS requires your position to meet the specialty occupation standard. Gather transcripts, state licensing certificates, and a job description that explicitly ties your engineering or construction management degree to the master plumber role before approaching employers.
Target commercial and industrial contractors first
Residential plumbing firms rarely file H-1B petitions. Focus on large commercial contractors, facilities management companies, and municipal water authorities, which are more likely to have established relationships with immigration counsel and prior H-1B filing history.
Check prevailing wage before accepting any offer
Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC code 47-2152 in your target city before negotiating. Your offer must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for that location, and any shortfall will block LCA certification regardless of employer intent.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsors
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers who have filed H-1B LCAs for plumbing and construction roles. Filtering by DOL Labor Condition Application data shows you which companies have actually sponsored workers, not just those who claim to be open to sponsorship.
Clarify the specialty occupation argument early
Ask the hiring manager whether their attorney has successfully filed H-1B petitions for master plumber roles before. If not, confirm they're willing to build the specialty occupation argument using your specific degree requirements, project complexity, and licensing standards.
Account for LCA timing in your start date
Your employer must have a certified LCA from DOL before filing your I-129 with USCIS. LCA certification typically takes seven business days, so build that window into your expected start date to avoid gaps between your current status and new employment.
H-1B Visa Master Plumber: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a master plumber role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the position is defined. USCIS requires the role to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific related field. A master plumber position tied to a construction management, mechanical engineering, or building systems engineering degree can qualify, but a general trades role without a degree requirement typically won't. The employer's job description and your actual credentials both matter.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for master plumbers?
Commercial general contractors, industrial facility operators, large property management companies, and municipal utilities are the most common H-1B sponsors for skilled plumbing roles. Residential contractors rarely sponsor because their roles don't meet the specialty occupation standard. Migrate Mate lets you filter employers by verified H-1B filing history so you can focus outreach on companies that have actually sponsored similar positions.
How does state plumbing licensing interact with H-1B status?
State master plumber licenses are separate from your immigration status and must be obtained under state rules regardless of your visa category. Some states require a Social Security Number to apply for a license, which you can obtain once you have valid work authorization. Start the licensing process as early as possible because reciprocity between states isn't guaranteed, and re-examination requirements can delay your ability to work legally in a new state.
Can my employer transfer my existing H-1B to a master plumber role at their company?
Yes, if you're already in H-1B status, your new employer can file a transfer petition under H-1B portability rules once they submit the I-129. You can start working for the new employer as soon as the transfer petition is received by USCIS, provided you've maintained valid status. The new employer still needs a certified LCA from DOL covering your specific role, location, and wage level before filing.
What O*NET classification applies to master plumber roles for H-1B filings?
Most master plumber positions are filed under O*NET-SOC code 47-2152, which covers plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters. Your employer's attorney will use this code when filing the LCA with DOL and when establishing the prevailing wage obligation. If your role has a supervisory or engineering focus, they may argue for a different SOC code, which changes the prevailing wage level and the specialty occupation analysis.
