Your Impact
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will support the design and development of Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and Remote Power Panels (RPPs) that serve mission‑critical environments. Your work will directly influence product durability, manufacturability, and integration of electrical systems into robust mechanical enclosures. You’ll collaborate closely with electrical, manufacturing, and vendor partners to bring high‑quality, production‑ready products from concept through validation.
This role is well‑suited for a hands‑on engineer who enjoys turning designs into real, buildable hardware and thrives in a fast‑growing, high‑accountability environment.

- Creating detailed 3D models, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) using SolidWorks
- Designing sheet metal components optimized for manufacturability, cost, and assembly (DFM/DFA)
- Collaborating with electrical engineers to integrate electrical components, cable routing, and mounting features into mechanical designs
- Working closely with fabrication vendors to validate designs, resolve manufacturability concerns, and ensure quality standards are met
- Supporting prototyping, testing, and product validation activities
- Assisting with root cause analysis of design or manufacturing issues and implementing corrective improvements
- Supporting engineering change requests and maintaining accurate design documentation
- Contributing to continuous improvement of mechanical design standards and best practices
- Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3–4 years of relevant experience in mechanical design
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings
- Experience designing sheet metal enclosures and components
- Understanding of mechanical integration within electrical products, enclosures, or similar systems
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, punching, bending, and welding
- Strong problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing PDUs, RPPs, switchgear, or similar electrical enclosures
- Knowledge of thermal management, airflow, and structural considerations for electrical equipment
- Familiarity with relevant UL standards
- Experience using PDM systems and managing revision control
- Exposure to ERP systems and BOM management

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Mechanical Engineer
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to mechanical engineering work. A degree in industrial or aerospace engineering typically qualifies. A general sciences degree without coursework in mechanics or thermodynamics may trigger an RFE, gather transcripts and course descriptions before applying.
Check LCA filings before targeting employers
Search the OFLC Wage Search to see which companies have filed Labor Condition Applications for mechanical engineer roles in your target metro. Consistent LCA history signals an active H-1B sponsorship infrastructure, not just a one-off hire.
Find verified sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter mechanical engineer roles by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history. This cuts out postings from companies that list sponsorship as possible but have no DOL filing record to back it up.
Distinguish cap-exempt employers from cap-subject ones
Universities, nonprofit research labs, and government entities are cap-exempt, meaning they can sponsor you outside the annual 85,000-slot lottery. If lottery odds concern you, targeting these employers gives you a guaranteed petition window any time of year.
Time your offer letter around the H-1B registration window
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start. If you receive an offer in June, your employer can't file until the following cycle unless the role is cap-exempt. Factor this 12-to-16-month gap into salary and start-date negotiations.
Use O*NET to document your role's specialty occupation basis
The O*NET profile for mechanical engineers specifies the typical education requirement as a bachelor's degree. Your employer's attorney will cite this in the I-129 petition, review it yourself so you can verify the job description accurately reflects the listed duties and requirements.

Find Mechanical Engineer JobsMechanical Engineer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a mechanical engineering role automatically qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Generally yes, but USCIS evaluates each petition individually. The role must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related field, and the actual job duties must reflect that requirement. Generic titles with broad responsibilities that could be performed without an engineering degree have faced RFEs, so the job description your employer submits matters significantly.
How do I find mechanical engineer employers who actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Search Migrate Mate to browse mechanical engineer roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history sourced from DOL records. You can also cross-reference the OFLC Wage Search to see which companies have filed LCAs for engineering roles in specific metro areas, confirming they have an active sponsorship process in place.
Can a mechanical engineer on OPT start work before the H-1B October 1 start date?
Yes. If you're on OPT and your employer files your H-1B petition before your OPT expires, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization automatically through September 30. This lets you keep working through the gap between OPT expiration and your H-1B start date without any interruption, provided the petition is timely filed.
What happens to my H-1B if I switch from one mechanical engineering employer to another?
You can transfer your H-1B to a new employer under H-1B portability rules, as long as you've been in valid H-1B status and the new employer files a transfer petition before your current authorization expires. You can start work at the new employer once that petition is received by USCIS, without waiting for approval, provided the role is also a qualifying specialty occupation.
Do government contractors or defense employers sponsor H-1B visas for mechanical engineers?
Some do, but security clearance requirements complicate it significantly. H-1B status doesn't prevent clearance eligibility in principle, but many classified programs require U.S. citizenship, which H-1B holders don't have. Contractors working on unclassified government projects often sponsor H-1B engineers without issue. Clarify clearance requirements during the interview process, before the offer stage.
