H-1B Visa Office Secretary Jobs
Office Secretary roles can qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business administration or office management. Many employers in healthcare, legal, and corporate settings sponsor H-1B holders for these roles, though you'll need to confirm the specialty occupation designation before applying.

Verify your degree matches the role
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree to be in a field directly related to the Office Secretary position. A degree in business administration, office management, or a related discipline strengthens your specialty occupation case considerably more than an unrelated field.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating
Pull the prevailing wage for Office Secretary roles in your target metro area using OFLC Wage Search. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above that level, so knowing the figure before your offer letter stage prevents last-minute complications.
Target industries with consistent H-1B filing history
Healthcare networks, law firms, and large university systems file H-1B petitions for administrative roles far more consistently than small businesses. Filter your search on Migrate Mate by employers with verified LCA filing history to avoid applying to companies that have never sponsored.
Check E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Employers sponsoring H-1B workers must be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm enrollment before you invest time in interviews. A company that isn't enrolled can't legally sponsor your petition, regardless of how willing they say they are.
Request cap-exempt employers if already in H-1B status
If you're transferring from an existing H-1B, hospitals, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and government research organizations are cap-exempt. A transfer to one of these employers bypasses the lottery entirely and can be filed at any time of year.
Document specialized software skills in your petition
Office Secretary roles that require proficiency in specialized case management, EHR, or legal billing software support the specialty occupation argument more effectively. Your employer's attorney should include these technical requirements in the I-129 to distinguish the role from general clerical work.
H-1B Visa Office Secretary: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Office Secretary role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the role is defined by the employer. USCIS requires that the position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field as a minimum entry requirement. A general clerical role won't qualify, but an Office Secretary position at a law firm or hospital that requires a degree in legal studies, healthcare administration, or business administration can meet the threshold if the employer documents it properly.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B visas for Office Secretary positions?
Search on Migrate Mate, which filters employers by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history. This shows you which companies have actually filed LCAs for administrative and secretarial roles, not just which ones claim to be open to sponsorship. Targeting employers with a documented filing history dramatically increases your chances of receiving a genuine offer.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Office Secretary role is restructured or eliminated?
You have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to find a new sponsoring employer, change to another visa status, or depart the U.S. If your role is reclassified rather than eliminated, your employer must file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS before the change takes effect. Waiting until after a restructure has already occurred can create a status gap.
Can my employer use PERM labor certification to sponsor me for a green card from an Office Secretary role?
Yes, but the employer must demonstrate through PERM that no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position at the prevailing wage. For Office Secretary roles, this can be harder to establish because the occupation is broadly defined. Employers in specialized settings like law offices or medical practices have a clearer path since they can document highly specific skill requirements that narrow the qualified U.S. worker pool.
What O*NET occupation code applies to Office Secretary roles and why does it matter?
O*NET classifies Office Secretaries under codes such as 43-6011 (Executive Secretaries) or 43-6014 (Secretaries and Administrative Assistants). The classification matters because USCIS and DOL use it to assess whether the role is consistent with specialty occupation standards. Roles mapped to executive or specialized secretary codes are more defensible in H-1B petitions than general administrative assistant classifications.
