H-1B Visa Online Teacher Jobs
Online Teacher roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field, typically education, curriculum design, or a subject-specific discipline. Employers filing LCAs for remote teaching positions must certify a prevailing wage tied to the worksite location, which affects how offers are structured.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Online Teacher
Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires your degree to align with the specific subject you'll teach, not just education broadly. A chemistry degree supports an online chemistry teacher petition; a general studies degree typically won't without supplemental credentials.
Check the prevailing wage for your worksite location
Remote Online Teacher roles still require a certified LCA tied to a physical worksite. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the prevailing wage for your work location before comparing offers, since wage levels vary significantly by metropolitan area.
Target employers already filing H-1B LCAs for teachers
Search Migrate Mate to filter for employers with verified H-1B filing history in education roles. Many online learning platforms sponsor H-1B visas but don't advertise it, so filtering by LCA data surfaces opportunities that generic searches miss.
Clarify the worksite address before the LCA is filed
If you'll work remotely from home, your employer must list your home address as the worksite on the LCA. Mismatches between the LCA worksite and your actual work location are a common RFE trigger for online teaching petitions.
Confirm the employer is E-Verify enrolled if you're on OPT
Online education companies sponsoring STEM OPT extensions must be enrolled in E-Verify before your extension is approved. Check enrollment status directly with your employer before relying on an H-1B transition timeline that assumes OPT continuity.
Use O*NET to document specialty occupation eligibility
The O*NET profile for your teaching specialty shows the typical education requirements and knowledge domains USCIS evaluates. Print and retain this profile to support your specialty occupation argument, especially if your employer lacks prior H-1B petition experience.
H-1B Visa Online Teacher: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Online Teacher role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on whether the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field as a minimum entry requirement. A role teaching advanced STEM subjects with a required degree in that discipline typically qualifies. A general tutoring or content-creation role that accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field is harder to support as a specialty occupation, and USCIS scrutinizes these petitions closely.
How do I find online education employers who sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate shows verified H-1B LCA filing history by employer and occupation code, so you can identify online learning platforms and virtual schools that have sponsored H-1B petitions for teaching roles. This is more reliable than guessing from job listings, since many education companies sponsor visas without explicitly advertising it.
How is the prevailing wage determined when I teach remotely from home?
The DOL requires the LCA to reflect the prevailing wage for the location where you physically perform your work. For fully remote Online Teacher roles, that means your home address dictates the wage level, not your employer's headquarters. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the correct wage level for your specific county or metropolitan area before evaluating an offer.
Can a part-time Online Teacher position support an H-1B petition?
Part-time H-1B petitions are permitted under USCIS rules, but the employer must still meet prevailing wage requirements on a pro-rated basis and the role must independently satisfy the specialty occupation standard. Part-time arrangements also affect cap-gap protections and the 60-day grace period if employment ends, so the employment contract terms matter as much as the visa petition itself.
What happens to my H-1B status if my online teaching contract ends or is not renewed?
H-1B holders have a 60-day grace period after employment ends to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart the country. For Online Teachers on fixed-term contracts common in the education sector, the contract end date functions the same as a termination date. Your employer is required to notify USCIS and offer to cover return transportation costs if they terminate your employment early.
