H-1B Visa PACU Nurse Jobs
PACU Nurse roles qualify as H-1B visa specialty occupations when the position requires a BSN or higher. Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and multi-site surgical networks are the most active H-1B sponsors in post-anesthesia care. USCIS classifies perioperative nursing under SOC 29-1141, which supports specialty occupation petitions.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a PACU Nurse
Verify your NCLEX and credential equivalency early
If you trained outside the U.S., get your nursing credentials evaluated by a CGFNS-approved organization before applying. Employers won't file an H-1B petition until your state board license is in hand, and credential review takes weeks.
Target hospitals with ACGME or Magnet designation
Academic medical centers and Magnet-recognized hospitals employ dedicated immigration teams and file H-1B petitions annually. They're structurally set up to sponsor nurses, unlike smaller surgical centers that rarely navigate the process.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter PACU Nurse roles by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history. That filing history shows which hospitals have actually petitioned for nurses in post-anesthesia care, not just ones that mention sponsorship in job postings.
Confirm the LCA wage level before signing
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing rate for your metro area. Look up the current rate for SOC 29-1141 using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating, so you know whether the offered salary meets the legal floor.
Ask about cap-exempt filing if the hospital qualifies
Nonprofit hospitals affiliated with a university or a research institution may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers. Cap-exempt filing means no lottery and no fixed April deadline, which significantly shortens your path to an approved petition.
Time your job search around the H-1B registration window
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, align your offer and employer filing timeline so your cap-gap protection covers the gap between OPT expiration and H-1B activation.
H-1B Visa PACU Nurse: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a PACU Nurse role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS consistently approves PACU Nurse petitions when the position requires a BSN or higher as a minimum qualification. The role falls under SOC 29-1141 and involves specialized clinical judgment in post-anesthesia monitoring and pain management. Employers must document that the job normally requires a degree in nursing or a closely related field, which most acute care institutions already do in their job descriptions.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for PACU Nurses?
Academic medical centers, large health systems, and Magnet-designated hospitals file the most H-1B petitions for nursing roles. Some nonprofit hospitals affiliated with universities qualify as cap-exempt employers, allowing them to file outside the annual lottery. Freestanding ambulatory surgery centers and smaller community hospitals sponsor far less frequently. Browse PACU Nurse roles filtered by verified H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate to identify active sponsors in your target market.
Can my employer file my H-1B petition if I'm still waiting on my state nursing license?
No. USCIS requires that H-1B beneficiaries hold all required licenses at the time of filing. For PACU Nurses, that means a valid RN license in the state where you'll practice. If you trained internationally, your employer can't submit the I-129 petition until your NCLEX results are confirmed and your state board has issued the license, so start that process as early as possible.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect PACU Nurse H-1B petitions?
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing rate for your specific metro area and experience level. PACU Nurses in high-cost urban markets typically see higher prevailing wage floors than those in rural areas. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the current rate for SOC 29-1141 in your target location before accepting an offer, so you can confirm the employer's certified wage meets the legal requirement.
What happens to my H-1B status if my PACU unit closes or my employer is acquired?
If your employer closes, is acquired, or terminates your position, USCIS gives you a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer and transfer your H-1B. The new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before that window closes. You can begin work with the new employer once the transfer petition is filed and receives a receipt notice, without waiting for final approval under the portability rules.
