Map your role to the right SOC code
Before interviews begin, look up your role on O*NET to confirm the SOC code your employer will use. Senior Director of Product titles can map to multiple codes, and the wrong one can trigger a prevailing wage shortfall that stalls your petition.
Verify the employer's LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to check whether a prospective employer has filed Labor Condition Applications for senior product leadership roles. Employers who've sponsored at this level before understand the documentation burden and are less likely to withdraw midway through the process.
Request a wage level audit before signing
Pull the OFLC Wage Search for your metro area and SOC code before you accept an offer. Senior Director roles often land at Wage Level III or IV, and a below-threshold offer must be corrected in the LCA before USCIS will approve the petition.
Prepare a specialty occupation documentation package
At the Senior Director level, USCIS scrutinizes whether the role genuinely requires a specific degree rather than generalized business experience. Assemble a job description, org chart showing your direct reports, and a written explanation tying your degree field to your core product responsibilities.
Align your start date with USCIS processing windows
Senior product hires often have negotiable start dates, which gives you room to plan. Cap-subject H-1B petitions can only start October 1 at the earliest, so if you miss one fiscal year's lottery, negotiate a conditional offer that accommodates the next registration window.
Use premium processing for offer-dependent relocation
If your offer requires relocating before your current status expires, ask your employer to file with USCIS premium processing. It reduces adjudication to 15 business days and protects against the scenario where a delayed approval leaves you unable to start on the agreed date.

Find Senior Director Of Product JobsSenior Director Of Product H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Director of Product role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the employer's job description requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as computer science, engineering, or product management. The role must demand theoretical and practical application of that field. Generic leadership experience without a degree requirement won't satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation standard, so the job description wording matters significantly.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for senior product leadership roles?
Technology companies, enterprise software firms, and large-scale consumer platforms are the most consistent sponsors at the Senior Director level because these roles are common in their org structures. Browse Migrate Mate to filter by employers with verified LCA filing history in product and engineering management, which gives you a realistic picture of who has sponsored at this seniority before.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement apply to a Senior Director of Product?
USCIS requires the employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code, experience level, and work location. Senior Director roles typically fall under Wage Level III or IV, which represent experienced or fully competent workers in that classification. The employer certifies this in the LCA before filing the petition, and underpaying relative to that certified wage is a compliance violation.
Can I switch employers mid-H-1B at the Senior Director level?
Yes. Portability under AC21 lets you change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your H-1B petition has been pending for at least 180 days, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition, and you can start working immediately upon filing, without waiting for approval.
What documentation does USCIS typically request for Senior Director of Product petitions?
Expect USCIS to request evidence that the position genuinely requires a specialized degree, especially at director level where business judgment is a major component. Prepare the job description, your academic credentials with a credential evaluation if your degree is foreign, an organizational chart showing the role's scope, and the LCA certification. RFEs at this level often challenge whether the role is a specialty occupation rather than a general management position.
