Document your specialty occupation case early
Pull your O*NET profile for multimedia artists and animators to confirm the degree-requirement language. Compile degree transcripts, motion design portfolio links, and any professional certifications before outreach so your case file is ready when an employer asks.
Target studios with cap-exempt client work
Universities, nonprofits, and government contractors can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap. If you work on qualifying projects for these entities, your petition skips the lottery entirely and can be filed any time of year.
Check employer LCA history before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior Motion Designer roles by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you only pursue employers who have already navigated the H-1B process for this occupation rather than starting from scratch.
Negotiate your start date around the lottery window
Cap-subject H-1B employment can't begin before October 1. If you receive an offer after April's lottery, your employer can keep you on OPT cap-gap authorization through September 30, but get that timeline confirmed in your offer letter before signing.
Verify the prevailing wage tier for your role
Motion design roles span four wage levels based on experience and supervisory duties. Run your SOC code and work location through the OFLC Wage Search to confirm which level applies before your employer files the LCA, since an underfiled wage can trigger a DOL audit.

Find Senior Motion Designer JobsSenior Motion Designer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Senior Motion Designer qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation status by confirming the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Senior Motion Designer roles at studios and agencies typically require a degree in motion graphics, animation, film, or a closely related design discipline. Your employer documents this in the I-129 petition, and the O*NET profile for multimedia artists and animators supports the classification.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Motion Designers?
Broadcast networks, streaming platforms, advertising agencies, game studios, and in-house creative teams at large tech companies are the most consistent H-1B filers for motion design roles. The strongest signal is an employer's DOL LCA filing history for your specific SOC code. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified H-1B filing history for Senior Motion Designer roles so you can target your search efficiently.
Can I switch H-1B employers mid-project as a Senior Motion Designer?
Yes, through H-1B portability under AC21. If your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before your current status expires, you can start working for them as soon as they file, without waiting for approval. The catch is that the new role must also qualify as a specialty occupation, so your title and duties must remain substantially similar in nature.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect my job search timeline?
Cap-subject H-1B registrations open in March, the lottery runs in April, and approved petitions can't begin employment until October 1. That means if you're on OPT or another status, you need a job offer in hand before March registration opens. Some Senior Motion Designer roles at universities or nonprofits are cap-exempt, which removes the lottery risk and the October 1 wait entirely.
What does my employer need to file before I start work on an H-1B?
Before submitting the I-129 petition to USCIS, your employer must file and receive a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. The LCA confirms the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for Senior Motion Designer roles in your work location. USCIS won't approve the petition without a certified LCA attached, so your employer's ability to move quickly on that step directly affects your start date.
