Verify your degree maps to the role
USCIS requires a direct connection between your degree field and the Solutions Engineer position. A degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or information systems supports the petition. A general business degree likely won't without supplemental credentials.
Search LCA filings by job title
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications specifically for Solutions Engineer roles. This tells you which companies have already navigated the DOL certification process for this title, not just engineering roles broadly.
Target companies already enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment is mandatory for federal contractors and STEM OPT employers, and it signals familiarity with employment authorization processes. Prioritize employers with E-Verify history when you're evaluating who can move quickly on an H-1B petition.
Clarify the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your specific SOC code and work location. Solutions Engineers span wage levels two through four depending on autonomy and complexity. Confirm your offer meets or exceeds the certified LCA wage before signing.
Time your application around the October 1 start date
H-1B cap petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're on OPT and it expires before October, confirm your employer can bridge the gap with a cap-gap extension, which USCIS automatically provides when a timely petition is pending.
Document your pre-sales and technical scope clearly
Solutions Engineer roles that involve significant pre-sales activity can face USCIS scrutiny over whether the position truly requires a specialty degree. Your petition should emphasize technical architecture, integration design, and systems analysis duties rather than sales support framing.

Find Senior Solutions Engineer JobsSenior Solutions Engineer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Solutions Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Senior Solutions Engineer roles typically require computer science, engineering, or information systems credentials because of the architecture and systems integration work involved. Roles skewed toward account management may face more scrutiny, so your job description should emphasize the technical scope.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Solutions Engineer roles?
Enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and SaaS companies file the highest volume of LCAs for Solutions Engineer titles. Hardware and networking vendors also sponsor consistently. You can browse verified H-1B sponsoring employers for this role on Migrate Mate, which surfaces companies based on actual DOL Labor Condition Application filing history rather than self-reported data.
How does the prevailing wage requirement work for Senior Solutions Engineers?
Before filing your H-1B petition, your employer must obtain a certified LCA from DOL confirming your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the SOC code and work location. Senior-level roles often map to wage level three or four under the OFLC Wage Search. If you work at multiple client sites, each location may require a separate wage determination.
Can I change employers after getting an H-1B in a Solutions Engineer role?
Yes. Under H-1B portability, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, without waiting for approval, provided your current H-1B was previously approved and you haven't been out of status. The new employer files Form I-129 and a fresh LCA for the new position and work location.
What happens to my H-1B if my employer terminates me as a Solutions Engineer?
You enter a 60-day grace period after involuntary termination, during which you can pursue a new H-1B transfer, change to another nonimmigrant status, or prepare to depart. Your new employer's I-129 filing activates portability if filed before the 60 days expire. The grace period doesn't reset if the same situation recurs within a single H-1B validity period.
