Align your degree to ServiceNow's SOC code
USCIS evaluates specialty occupation by matching your degree field to the role's SOC code. ServiceNow engineers typically file under Software Developers or Software Quality Assurance. Pull the O*NET profile for that code and confirm your transcript reflects a directly related field.
Search LCA filings before targeting employers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Application filings by job title and state. Employers with certified LCAs for ServiceNow or ITSM roles have already cleared DOL review, which cuts pre-offer research time and confirms active sponsorship intent.
Find verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Run your ServiceNow Software Engineer search on Migrate Mate to see employers filtered by actual DOL filing history. This surfaces companies that have sponsored this specific role before, so you're not guessing which job listings will lead to a real H-1B petition.
Get ServiceNow certifications before the lottery
Holding a Certified System Administrator or Certified Application Developer credential narrows your SOC classification dispute risk. USCIS adjudicators reviewing IT roles respond to platform-specific credentials that tie your duties to the theoretical and practical application standard in specialty occupation definitions.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment for STEM OPT bridge roles
If you're bridging from OPT to H-1B, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify to authorize STEM OPT extension. Verify enrollment status through E-Verify before accepting an offer, especially at smaller consultancies or system integrators placing you at a ServiceNow end-user client.
Clarify third-party placement in your H-1B petition
ServiceNow engineers placed at client sites through staffing or consulting firms face additional USCIS scrutiny under the employer-employee relationship standard. Your petition must document the end-client's worksite, the duration of the engagement, and your direct employer's control over your day-to-day work.
H-1B Visa Servicenow Software Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a ServiceNow Software Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B?
Yes. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on whether the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specifically related field. ServiceNow engineering work, which involves platform configuration, scripting, workflow automation, and integration development, consistently meets that threshold when the employer documents the theoretical and practical application requirements in the H-1B petition.
How does third-party placement affect H-1B sponsorship for ServiceNow engineers?
Many ServiceNow engineers work through consulting firms or system integrators placed at end-client sites. USCIS requires the petitioning employer to demonstrate a legitimate employer-employee relationship, including the right to control, supervise, and terminate the worker. Petitions for third-party placements must include end-client letters, statements of work, and evidence that the sponsoring employer directs the work.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for ServiceNow Software Engineers?
Technology consultancies, managed service providers, and large enterprise IT departments are the primary sponsors for this title. DOL Labor Condition Application data shows consistent filings from firms that implement or maintain ServiceNow platforms for healthcare, financial services, and government clients. Search Migrate Mate to see employers with verified H-1B filing history for this specific role.
Can ServiceNow certifications strengthen an H-1B petition for this role?
Yes, directly. USCIS adjudicators reviewing software roles look for evidence that the position requires specialized knowledge tied to a specific body of theory. ServiceNow platform certifications, such as Certified System Administrator or Certified Implementation Specialist, demonstrate role-specific technical depth and help support the specialty occupation argument when the job title alone draws scrutiny.
What prevailing wage level should a ServiceNow Software Engineer expect on an H-1B LCA?
Prevailing wages for this role vary by geographic location and experience level. DOL assigns wages across four levels based on skills, supervision, and complexity. Your employer must certify a wage at or above the applicable level on the Labor Condition Application before USCIS will approve the petition. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up current prevailing wages for the relevant SOC code in your work location.
