Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Strategy Director
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
USCIS evaluates whether your degree directly relates to strategic planning work. A degree in business, economics, or management is the clearest path. If yours is in an adjacent field, document how your coursework maps to the role's core functions.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to search Strategy Director roles at employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filings. This cuts out companies that have never sponsored the role, saving weeks of outreach to employers unlikely to file.
Target companies with cap-exempt affiliations
Nonprofits affiliated with universities and qualifying research organizations are cap-exempt, meaning you can apply outside the annual lottery. Strategy roles at think tanks, university research arms, and nonprofit policy groups often fall under this category.
Benchmark your offered wage against DOL prevailing rates
Before signing an offer, verify that your salary meets or exceeds the Level II or Level III prevailing wage for your metro area using the OFLC Wage Search. Employers must certify this in the LCA, and underpayment is a common RFE trigger.
Negotiate premium processing into your offer terms
Ask the employer to include USCIS premium processing in the offer. For Strategy Director hires, where start dates often align with budget cycles, the 15-business-day adjudication window avoids costly project delays if your standard petition is pending.
Clarify employer intent before the 60-day grace period lapses
If you're between H-1B employers, you have a 60-day grace period to secure a new sponsor. Prioritize outreach to companies already mid-process with their legal teams, since a new I-129 petition takes time to prepare and file.

Find Strategy Director JobsStrategy Director H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Strategy Director role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, Strategy Director qualifies as a specialty occupation when the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business administration, economics, or management. USCIS reviews whether the position's duties are complex enough to necessitate that theoretical and practical expertise. Roles with generalist duties and no degree requirement can face RFEs, so your offer letter should clearly tie the responsibilities to a specific field of study.
Which types of employers most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Directors?
Management consulting firms, large technology companies, financial services institutions, and multinational corporations file the most H-1B petitions for Strategy Director and senior strategy roles. To find employers with verified filing histories for this specific title, search on Migrate Mate, which surfaces companies based on actual Labor Condition Application records rather than self-reported sponsorship willingness.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Strategy Director job seekers?
Most Strategy Director roles fall under the regular H-1B cap, which means your petition enters the annual lottery held each April for an October 1 start date. USCIS caps registrations at 65,000 general slots plus 20,000 for U.S. master's degree holders. If you hold a U.S. advanced degree, you get two chances in the selection process, which meaningfully improves your odds compared to the general pool alone.
Can a Strategy Director role qualify for an O*NET job zone that supports H-1B approval?
Strategy Director maps to a Job Zone 4 or 5 classification in O*NET, reflecting the combination of extensive experience and advanced education the role requires. This classification supports the specialty occupation argument because it demonstrates that entry into the occupation typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific discipline, which is exactly what USCIS looks for in an H-1B petition.
What should you do if your H-1B employer transfers you to a different business unit or location?
A material change in your job duties, work location, or reporting structure may require your employer to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS and a new Labor Condition Application with DOL. Moving to a new metropolitan statistical area always triggers this requirement because prevailing wages vary by geography. Notify your employer's immigration counsel before the transfer takes effect to avoid a compliance gap in your work authorization.
