That's why we are committed to promoting the healthy development of children through the nurturing of continuing, one-to-one friendships with caring responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff. Key Responsibilities

- Facilitate the initial placement (“match meeting”) between each volunteer, youth, the youth’s parent/guardian, and our agency support staff.
- Document clearly and in a timely manner all information obtained through the assessment and matching process and maintain accurate records for volunteers and families.
- Advocate for volunteers and youth seeking placement that may not be readily available and maintain regular communication with them to ensure the most up-to-date information when placement options become available.
- Collaborate closely with other service delivery staff to build agency knowledge/awareness and enable the most children to be successfully served.
- Constantly look after the safety of our youth and inform management of any critical youth and family incidents and potential issues that may impact our services.
- Represent Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts throughout the communities we serve and in public.
- Participate in different site-wide initiatives to drive engagement in topics of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Be a part of a true team - together with your peers work on projects and events that will drive enhancements and improvements.

Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B specialty occupation requires your bachelor's degree to relate directly to the Enrollment Specialist duties. Degrees in education administration, business, or healthcare management typically satisfy this. A mismatch between your major and the role's core functions triggers USCIS RFEs.
Search LCA filings by SOC code
Enrollment Specialist roles are filed under multiple SOC codes depending on the industry. Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter LCA disclosures by occupation code and confirm which employers have sponsored this title in your target sector before applying.
Target industries with consistent H-1B filing history
Higher education institutions, healthcare networks, and large insurance carriers sponsor Enrollment Specialists more reliably than smaller nonprofits. Use Migrate Mate to filter Enrollment Specialist openings by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history in your field.
Request the LCA wage level before accepting an offer
DOL assigns your H-1B a wage level one through four. Level one positions for Enrollment Specialists at larger institutions can draw USCIS scrutiny if your responsibilities are complex. Ask your employer which wage level they intend to certify before signing.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment if you need STEM OPT bridge
If you're extending OPT while waiting for an H-1B cap slot, your employer must be E-Verify enrolled to authorize STEM OPT. Enrollment Specialist roles at non-E-Verify employers can leave you without valid work authorization during the gap between OPT expiration and H-1B start.
Document enrollment metrics for specialty occupation evidence
USCIS evaluates whether Enrollment Specialist duties are complex enough to require a degree. Maintain records of enrollment volume, systems you manage, and cross-departmental processes you own. This documentation supports your employer's specialty occupation argument in the I-129 petition.
H-1B Visa Enrollment Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Enrollment Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B?
It depends on how the employer defines the role. USCIS requires that a bachelor's degree in a specific field be a standard requirement for the position. Enrollment Specialists at universities, healthcare systems, or insurance companies whose duties involve compliance, data systems, or regulatory filings tend to qualify more consistently than generalist enrollment roles at smaller organizations.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for Enrollment Specialist positions?
Higher education, healthcare administration, and employee benefits administration are the most active H-1B sponsors for this title. Universities sponsoring international students often hire Enrollment Specialists internally and have established immigration support processes. You can browse Enrollment Specialist openings filtered by H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate.
What SOC code is typically used for Enrollment Specialist H-1B filings?
Employers most commonly file under SOC 13-1141 (Compensation, Benefits, and Job Analysis Specialists) or 11-9033 (Education Administrators) depending on the industry. The SOC code affects your prevailing wage determination, so confirm which code your employer intends to use before your LCA is filed with DOL.
Can I switch to a new employer's H-1B sponsorship while working as an Enrollment Specialist?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file an I-129 petition on your behalf, provided your current H-1B was lawfully approved and you haven't fallen out of status. The new employer must file before your current petition expires to maintain continuous work authorization.
What documentation helps an Enrollment Specialist employer build a strong H-1B petition?
The employer needs to demonstrate that the role normally requires a degree in a directly related field. Useful evidence includes internal job posting language specifying degree requirements, organizational charts showing the role's complexity, description of any specialized software or compliance frameworks the position manages, and the O*NET occupational profile supporting degree-level entry requirements.
