Map your degree to RPA job codes
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to the RPA Developer role. Pull the O*NET profile for your target job title and document how your degree aligns with the listed knowledge areas before any employer conversation.
Target E-Verify enrolled employers first
Employers enrolled in E-Verify have already cleared federal employment eligibility infrastructure, which often signals readiness to sponsor H-1B workers. Filter your search toward these companies to avoid late-stage rejections from employers unprepared for the LCA filing process.
Verify prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search for your SOC code and metro area so you can spot wage-level mismatches before the petition is filed.
Use Migrate Mate to find active H-1B sponsors
Search RPA Developer roles on Migrate Mate to surface employers with verified LCA filing history. This cuts out guesswork about which companies actually sponsor H-1B petitions for automation and process engineering positions.
Clarify cap-exempt status with each employer
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with universities, and certain research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B petition skips the annual lottery. RPA Developers placed at these organizations through a staffing firm may also qualify, so confirm the employer's exemption status early.
Negotiate start date against the October 1 cap window
Cap-subject H-1B petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer in July, your employer can still file, but you won't start until the following fiscal year. Build this timeline into your offer negotiation to avoid a gap in employment.

Find Rpa Developer JobsRpa Developer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an RPA Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, RPA Developer roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria because they typically require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering. USCIS evaluates whether the specific duties, such as designing automation workflows and integrating bot frameworks, require that theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for RPA Developers?
Financial services, healthcare systems, insurance, and enterprise IT consulting firms are among the most active H-1B sponsors for RPA Developers. These industries run high volumes of rules-based back-office processes that automation directly addresses. You can find employers with verified LCA filing history for this role on Migrate Mate, filtered by industry and location.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I switch RPA platforms or tools?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 lets you transfer your petition to a new employer after 180 days of approved status, even if the new role uses different RPA tools such as UiPath, Automation Anywhere, or Blue Prism. USCIS evaluates whether the new role remains in the same or a similar occupational classification, not which software platform you use.
How does the DOL prevailing wage apply to RPA Developer positions?
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying they'll pay you at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job title, SOC code, and work location. RPA Developer roles can map to multiple SOC codes depending on duties, which affects which wage level applies. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the prevailing wage for your metro area before your offer is finalized.
Does working remotely affect my H-1B status as an RPA Developer?
Remote work can trigger a material change in your H-1B conditions if your worksite shifts to a new geographic area not covered by your current LCA. Your employer must file an amended LCA and potentially an amended H-1B petition with USCIS before you begin working from a new location. This applies even for fully remote roles where you relocate to a different metro area.
