Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in VP Product
Map your degree to the SOC code
USCIS evaluates specialty occupation by matching your degree field to the role's SOC code. For VP Product, degrees in computer science, business, or engineering carry more weight than general management credentials when the employer writes the LCA.
Target employers with cap-exempt filing history
Universities, nonprofits attached to universities, and qualifying research organizations can file H-1B petitions year-round without lottery exposure. VP Product roles exist at these institutions, and cap-exempt status removes the April timing constraint entirely.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Pull up DOL Labor Condition Application filing history on Migrate Mate to confirm which companies have sponsored VP-level product roles before. Past LCA filings for senior product titles signal an employer who understands the sponsorship process.
Clarify prevailing wage level before signing
VP Product roles typically fall at DOL wage Level III or IV. Run the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer to confirm the employer's listed wage meets the prevailing threshold for your metro area and SOC code.
Negotiate premium processing into your offer terms
Standard H-1B adjudication can take several months. Ask the employer to commit to premium processing during offer negotiations, not after signing, so your start date doesn't slip past your OPT or grace period expiry.
Document your product leadership scope for the petition
USCIS scrutinizes whether a VP title genuinely requires a specialty-degree background. Prepare a detailed job duties summary showing strategic product decisions, cross-functional oversight, and technical judgment that only a degreed specialist could perform.
H-1B Visa VP Product: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a VP Product role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the employer can demonstrate the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as computer science, engineering, or business. Generic management duties without a direct degree requirement can attract USCIS scrutiny, so the job description needs to emphasize technical product judgment, not just team oversight.
How do I find companies that have actually sponsored H-1B visas for VP Product roles?
Search Migrate Mate using the VP Product job title filter. The platform surfaces employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for senior product roles, so you're targeting companies that have already navigated H-1B sponsorship at this level rather than guessing from job postings alone.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off from a VP Product role?
You have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to find a new sponsor, change status, or depart the U.S. Given VP Product searches can run three to six months, starting your job search immediately after a layoff rather than waiting is the practical approach. Your new employer files a fresh H-1B transfer petition.
Can a startup sponsor my H-1B for a VP Product position?
Yes, startups can sponsor H-1B visas as long as they have a valid EIN, can demonstrate ability to pay the prevailing wage, and the role meets specialty occupation standards. USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence asking for financials or investor documentation, so the employer's financial stability documentation needs to be thorough.
Does the O*NET classification for my role affect my H-1B petition?
It does. The SOC code assigned to your role determines which DOL prevailing wage level applies and shapes how USCIS evaluates specialty occupation status. VP Product roles most commonly map to General and Operations Managers or Computer and Information Systems Managers in O*NET. Your employer's attorney should confirm the SOC code matches the actual job duties before filing.
