H-1B Visa Technical Product Owner Jobs
Technical Product Owner roles sit at the intersection of business strategy and engineering, which makes them strong candidates for H-1B specialty occupation classification. Map your role to the right SOC code
Technical Product Owner positions are most often classified under computer and information systems SOC codes. Confirm which code your target employers use before applying so your degree and experience align with what the LCA will certify.
Verify your degree field supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct connection between your degree field and the Technical Product Owner role. A computer science or engineering degree maps cleanly, but business degrees need supporting coursework or experience to satisfy the specialty occupation requirement.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Technical Product Owner roles by employers who have filed H-1B LCAs for this occupation code, so you're only spending time on companies with a proven willingness to sponsor rather than guessing from job descriptions.
Ask about cap-exempt status during screening
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and certain research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning your petition can be filed year-round without entering the lottery. Many Technical Product Owner roles exist at these organizations and are routinely overlooked by candidates fixated on big tech.
Request premium processing before your 60-day grace period shrinks
If you're changing employers after a layoff, the 60-day grace period is tight. Ask your new employer to file with premium processing so USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days and you have a decision before your grace period expires.
Cross-reference your prevailing wage level before accepting an offer
Look up the DOL prevailing wage for your specific metro area and experience level using OFLC Wage Search before your offer letter is drafted. Level I and Level II wages differ substantially, and the LCA must certify the offered salary meets the applicable threshold.

Find Technical Product Owner JobsTechnical Product Owner H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Product Owner role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on whether the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Technical Product Owner positions that involve software development lifecycle oversight, system architecture decisions, or cross-functional engineering leadership typically satisfy this standard when paired with a computer science, engineering, or related degree.
Which employers typically sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Product Owner roles?
Technology companies, financial services firms, healthcare systems, and enterprise software vendors are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for this role. Cap-exempt employers like research universities and affiliated nonprofits also hire Technical Product Owners and can file petitions outside the lottery window. Migrate Mate lets you browse open roles filtered by employers with verified LCA filing history for this occupation.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my timeline for starting a Technical Product Owner role?
If your target employer is cap-subject, your petition must be registered in March and, if selected, filed by June 30 for an October 1 start date. That means a job offer needs to be in place by late February or early March at the latest. Missing the registration window means waiting a full year for the next cycle unless the employer is cap-exempt.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if my Technical Product Owner role is eliminated?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you transfer to a new employer once your petition has been pending for 180 days or is already approved. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition, and you can start working as soon as USCIS receives it. The 60-day grace period from your termination date gives you a window to secure the next offer.
What documentation should I prepare to support an H-1B petition for a Technical Product Owner position?
You'll need educational transcripts and degree certificates showing a field directly related to the role, a detailed job description from your employer that establishes specialty occupation, and evidence of any prior relevant experience. If your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation is typically required. Your employer's attorney will use these materials to build the LCA and I-129 petition.
